It lists "Defence: (di fens') n. Brit. sp. of Defense" Of course, the English posters will protest that that is an American dictionary, supporting an American dialect, or whatever. *shrugs* Both ways are fine, AFAIK. Same with "Skedge-yule" and "shed-yule".
