I finally give in

dloaded v 10139 and the run time error is still happening, not only that it is happening on all the other versions now as well.

Don't know wheter any of you got the dxdiag because nobody seems to want to reply to that question.

I won't re-install Windows on the grounds that everything else works fine.

Oh well whatever never mind........................................[&:]

I am not sure if you seen this thread since the search function on this message board doesn't work too well, but it may be able to help you. I have seen a few games have this problem espeically if it was developed in Visual Basic and/or uses Microsoft Access for the database. I wouldn't want to re-install either, so this thread contain some things that may help. Hope you find a solution somewhere in there.

There is definitely something going wrong with your Windows registry if this is happening. The only suggestion I can make at this point is to run the Windows system restore utility and restore your OS to the state it was before you installed the game. Then try installing the game again.

Hi again.... take a listen to this.....

.............GULP!

That's me swallowing a rather large slice of humble pie.

I tried the system restore tip, (many thanks hadn't thought of it and it's so obvious DOH!) but because my PC obviously hates me the system restore wouldn't restore.... which seriously made me want to [sm=00000028.gif] My PC.

Anyway I took the plunge and re-installed everything and hey presto v10139 is now running nicely.

I'm even more pleased now, because as of this moment my geforce 5600 is running this game very very sweetly in 1280 * 960 high detail and advanced shadows on. I also do not receive the frame rate being low message anymore, so I guess I have been trying to run this game with a naff system right from the start. Anyway a big thumbs up is in order because I can now see the many numerous improvements between the initial release and the latest patch.

Many thanks for your tips and finally sorry to have pestered you.

Keep up the good work.

Also thanks to Antmeister71 for the link and tip

Cool...glad to see you got it working. That seems to be the only solution for everyone having a similar problem. Microsoft has some strange issues at times, even though Windows XP has been their most stable OS to date.

Stable??? Are you sure about that? I still run Win98 SE and I actually prefer the older OS's then XP. Just my opinion.

Yep and I am talking from experience from both the workplace and home. The Recovery Console is alos a lifesaver as well if you do encounter problems with an application you installed or weird drivers. Yep....and I tend to defragment my drive a lot less with this OS as well.

Marauders -> RE: Okay I give up (5/4/2006 5:52:40 PM)

That's great news Mistermod!

XP has advantages over 98SE to be sure, but I use 98SE on my main machine because it runs my old game software better.
