Rysyonok -> Camouflaged ships (4/27/2006 4:54:05 AM)

In WW2 IJN used a number of camouflage styles - dark grey, decorating ships with trees, painting ships to resemble atolls, painting smaller ships' shapes on large vessels, even using khaki-style color system - a mix of black, grey, and white. Which one do people like the most?

You should see the coastal version. Those had palm trees planted on the main deck! =)

But shouldn't the enemy ships be able to see the smoke much before the hull?? I don't think it historically worked well... [8|]

It sure didn't.

Hm.

Version 2 (wasn't too happy with CT spacing)

Nissyo Maru Class 5000-ton AKs - the most frequent camo in IJN was (surprise, surprise) solid dark grey...

And the last type of camo used by IJN is random shapes.

Bordeaux Maru class AK

As far as i know, it mostly worked versus ennemy submarines since the stadimeter is very dependent of target aspect.
So a fasle aspect mean a bad estimation and then a bad ranging wich usually mean a wasted torpedo.

Rysyonok -> RE: Camouflaged ships (7/17/2006 4:49:01 AM)

Which is (somewhat, I guess) reflected in higher dud rates in WPO 1.2+.

The camo is for looks mostly.
