Jh316 -> Hm, odd thing with the Pzkpfw-II series's HE rounds. (4/30/2006 3:49:27 PM)

I just noticed that unlike every other HE round I've looked at, the HE for their 2cm gun has a pen value that decreases with distance listed. Why is that?

It might have something to do with the mysterious 222 code????
Automatic guns don't really get AP. They get HE with a game routine modifier????
Need someone with a better understandng of game engine mechanics.

I'm not sure what you mean. It has ammo and pen values for HE, AP, and APCR.

I am not sure what I mean either.

Some peaple say that with Automatic cannon that are coded 222 in weapon size (?) that the game engine looks for the HE penetration and applies it like normal AP peneration. It ignores what is in the AP penetration box.

APCR seems do be different.

Some OOB teams didn't know about this and plugged AP values into the boxes AND/OR the code was rewritten during some revision and the numbers were NOT taken out of the AP boxes????[&:]

THis is just the impession I have from reading other threads and other forums.

That is why you need someone with better knowledge of the game mechanics than me.

20mm and other automatic guns (mainly AA guns) were "222 Weapon Size coded" to deal with 2 issues: their high Rate-of-Fire and their use of mixed HE, AP and tracer ammunition in the same belt/magazine.

1. To deal with the high ROF that can't be accurately represented by the limited ROF range (1-9 for guns), these weapons are assumed to be firing "bursts", instead of single rounds, each time a "shot" is fired in the game. Like machineguns, the "shot" represents multiple rounds.

2. Because these weapons use a mix of rounds in each "burst", there needed to be a way to represent the armour penetrating ability for each "shot" without resorting to the single-round approach. The "222 Weapon Size" code was written in to use the weapon's HE numbers against "soft" targets and its AP numbers against "hard" targets.

And this is why the 20mm automatic gun has both HE Pen and AP Pen values. APCR is treated like normal, with the weapon firing a single APCR round instead of a "burst" of multiple rounds.
