FrankHunter -> Guns of August Beta (4/30/2006 6:13:14 PM)

Hi, been awhile since I was here. Just wanted to say GoA will be ready for beta-testing probably within a week as soon as I fix an XP-only bug.

GoA was updated with some stuff Matrix requested last summer and then was in a bit of limbo in the fall. Unfortunately it simply wouldn't work on anyone's computer except mine. I also had the same problem with Black Powder and even 1813. Since they all worked fine on mine it made it pretty tough to track down. I've been testing the games now on an XP-laptop and GoA seems to be running fine but we'll see when I send the three of them in again tomorrow.

Hopefully they will work and we can start the beta testing.

Soft Heap -> RE: Guns of August Beta (4/30/2006 6:37:34 PM)

Yahoo!

Thanks for the update!

wodin -> RE: Guns of August Beta (4/30/2006 7:58:24 PM)

Hooray!!

Dirtdog20 -> RE: Guns of August Beta (5/1/2006 2:33:00 AM)

Much better, now my weekend isnt quite as bad.

sol_invictus -> RE: Guns of August Beta (5/1/2006 2:51:51 AM)

Frank, I thank you from the bottom of my heart. It is so nice to hear that GOA is approaching release in the near future.[&o]

Not if it's just going into beta testing.

by the way Frank, how about signing all of us up to be testers for GoA?

Executioner Five -> RE: Guns of August Beta (5/1/2006 4:00:31 AM)

Yea to the beta-testing idea, sign me up.

Although I'll believe this when I see it.

sol_invictus -> RE: Guns of August Beta (5/1/2006 7:15:44 AM)

Well, "near future" is relative.[;)] I'm just glad to hear anything.

sabre100 -> RE: Guns of August Beta (5/3/2006 6:29:43 AM)

Excellent news Frank please let us know where we sign up as Beta Testers [:D]

JudgeDredd -> RE: Guns of August Beta (5/3/2006 11:16:50 AM)

Never played a WWI game - this could be interesting! Keeping my eye open on this one.

Hanal -> RE: Guns of August Beta (5/4/2006 5:10:55 AM)

I believe that if there are going to be beta testers, those who preordered should be given first crack at it (no I did not preorder, just my thoughts).......

FrankHunter -> RE: Guns of August Beta (5/4/2006 6:46:49 AM)

I always saw beta-testing as something I thank people for putting themselves through rather than as a reward for something. I know I wouldn't enjoy doing it.

Hanal -> RE: Guns of August Beta (5/4/2006 6:56:15 AM)

They can always say no thanks to the offer......

FrankHunter -> RE: Guns of August Beta (5/4/2006 8:39:56 AM)

That's true. Obviously anyone who pre-ordered is definitely interested in the period. Still, they didn't pay to beta-test. Once we're ready to go its certainly fine with me.

Richard12345 -> RE: Guns of August Beta (5/5/2006 7:21:14 PM)

Hi,

I'm a longtime viewer first time poster - just interested in what type of strat game GOA is going to be. (I still play AH GOA - which I am sad to say was probably my first love - hence the avid interest).

Cheers

FrankHunter -> RE: Guns of August Beta (5/5/2006 7:41:53 PM)

Similar scale to GoA. I tried uploading a recent screenshot but it said the file is too large. Nuts.

A big difference with GoA is the HQs and "Offensives". Units can only attack if they've been activated and to be activated requires being adjacent to an activated HQ. A player can buy offensives and allocate them to his HQs during the bi-monthly build phase. Only 1 per HQ though. A player can activate an HQ every impulse although most HQs only have 2 or 3 capacity. So an HQ can go through its offensives in one turn and it might take 6 months to build up again.

Also, units tire out as they're used. Readiness falls.

The combination makes it hard to keep an offensive going after the intial hit.

Trenches make breakthroughs very difficult. It takes awhile to build them so at first you can blow a level one trench away with some artillery and then attack but later trench levels will be at level 3 and 4.

If you invest in R and D however your artillery will get better, different types of poison gas will become available, assault training will be available and of course tanks will arrive. When that happens even level 4 trenches can be overcome.

Cool.....I preordered a looooong time ago, am somewhat of an expert in the field and would love to betatest this. ok, i'd like to beta test this.

Moltke71 -> RE: Guns of August Beta (5/7/2006 5:21:58 PM)

I am a friend of beta testers. I'd rather be their friend than be one.

FrankHunter -> RE: Guns of August Beta (5/8/2006 2:34:39 AM)

I'd be more than happy to take you guys on immediately as testers to help me figure out this current bug as well as the testing of the game.

Sure thing. How do we get started?

*Lava* -> RE: Guns of August Beta (5/8/2006 12:38:24 PM)

Hi!

Wow!

Good to see you back Frank.

Really looking forward to the game.

If I can be of any assistance, don't hesitate to ask.

Ray (alias Lava)

Richard12345 -> RE: Guns of August Beta (5/8/2006 4:17:20 PM)

Thanks for the reply Frank - sounds v.cool [8D]

Are you including naval units?

DanielAnsell -> RE: Guns of August Beta (5/8/2006 6:57:43 PM)

I'd love to test also, if you are seriously looking for testers. I know a fair bit about the period, though I've never played a WWI era computer game.

I do have a good cable connection, though, if that would help.

FrankHunter -> RE: Guns of August Beta (5/9/2006 3:27:14 AM)

Matrix is going to set up a playtest forum and download area etc. Will take a couple of days. Then we'll grab a team and get rolling.

FrankHunter -> RE: Guns of August Beta (5/9/2006 3:28:10 AM)

Hi Ray, nice to see you! You already tested this same game once [:)]

Hope you are doing well.

Volunteers needed to face the Guns of August!

The Guns of August are starting to rumble and the earth is starting to tremble. What does it all mean to you? The guns are getting louder and closer and now we need a strong Beta Team of volunteers to do some reconnaissance and probing of the front lines to check for strong points and weaknesses. You can now be a part of this exclusive Beta Team!

If you believe that you have the time and skills to complete your reconnaissance mission of the Guns of August, please email the following information to me:

*Name
*Your Matrix Forum Name
*E-mail
*Phone Number
*Your address
*Previous Testing Experience?
*Any comments on specific qualifications or reasons for interest in testing the Guns of August?
*Any unique qualifications that would make you an exceptional candidate for the Beta Test Team?
*Your current PC Specs - CPU, Memory, Hard Drive, Video Card, Sound Card, Operating System?

In return, I will send you a Non Disclosure Agreement (NDA) that you must complete, sign and return to me ASAP. Just follow the instructions on the bottom of page 2. When I receive the NDA, you will be notified and allowed to participate on the GoA Beta Test Team.

But, be sure that you are able, ready, and willing to join the Beta Test Team in May, 2006 and stay with it for more than a few weeks.

Regards,

Karlis

If I can help I would like too to participate in a beta testing.
I have experience playing board games (and time ago a testing) and I like games about WWI.
Too, I have experience in software and some knowledge of history.
