elbkhan -> A couple of "How does.." Questions (5/2/2006 8:10:41 AM)

Hi

New to the game, like it a lot so far, but have some questions I cant work out the answers too (ive been googling and have read most of this forum and the guides)

I'm currently playing my second game. 1792, patched with the latest one (nice new colours btw) as prussia, with 10k glory as goal, 23 yrs length and have gained Poland as a protectorate (no doing of my own).

1) Can you annex/coup a protectorate? Is it worth keeping them (ie the lack of control of province labour allocation / the easier conquest by enemys in war since they dont work the same as national provinces for peace resolution)?

2) They gave me an infantry army and a cavalry army. I can't remove any troops or leaders from them/transfer them across etc. All new polish troops are ok to be moved about between 'container units'. Is this normal?

3) How do replacements work for the polish (protectorates in general) units? They all seem understrength, the rest of my army is fine. They are in supply.

4) Is there any way to kill off POW's? I hate giving 250k troops back to my enemy when they surrender. Also, where can you find teh 'work done' by pow labour (if anywhere).

Thanks

You can transfer leaders and units form these protectorate armies by giving them an auto-join order. A bit too complicated for my taste, but it works.

If I have got several depleted divisions within an army or corps, I transfer men between them in order to replenish as many as possible. Then I put the weak units into garrison (auto-join for protectorat containers), where they will grow relatively fast and for free.

In order to kill some POW units, I transfer men between them, replenishing as many as possible to full strength, so that at least a few POW units will be disbanded due to low strength.

The fact that they come with pretty good armies is usually a good reason to keep them. They also don't effect your waste, which is a big plus. You can't 'annex' your own protectorate, although you could set if free, and then declare war on it - but I never would.

You meanie. No there isn't. The owkr they do isn't easily viewable, but it is very real.

I am confused about protectorates as well. When I conquer some provinces, they become protectorates. I want them to be a proper part of my country...so how do I make them that? Can I use dimplomacy to make them like me, and then eventually they will become 'native russian provinces'? Will every province I conquer become a protectorate, except those that I get through treaty, or native provinces of another state?
