With a release coming soon, this board is sure pretty quiet.

I wish Shaun would talk more about the game, answer some of threads, maybe some beta testers can speak up.

Amaroq -> RE: PS 2006 Talk? (5/4/2006 12:20:11 AM)

What do you want to know?

PadresFan104 -> RE: PS 2006 Talk? (5/4/2006 12:21:56 AM)

Yeah... I was just mentioning to Shaun the other day that the boards were slow. As far as his time to spend on the boards goes, I feel lucky when I can catch him for a few minutes in IM. Between his day job, his family, and PureSim, I think he gets about 5 hours of sleep at night at best.

I think it's up to us players to keep the board active, but it seems like we have a lot of shy folks hanging around. I've had over 500 hits on my website where I am posting my Pittsburgh Association Alpha almanac, but only a few people talking about it in the thread...

As a beta tester, I can tell you that the game is coming along great, but it's more of an evolution rather than a revolution. Most of the changes are under the hood, with the exception of the player card. The good news is that the beta testers have done a great job of finding lots of bugs, and more importantly, have helped Shaun revamp the career arcs which makes the game much more interesting to play. My favorite addition so far is the ability to export HTML to a web site...

In my opinion, for this game to compete with OOTP (the elephant in the room nobody is talking about!), then it needs to do the following:

Now:
- Advertise! I see lots of banner ads for OOTP these days, but none for PureSim. Where's the value in beating OOTP to market if nobody knows about it?

Short Term:
- Keep working on the sounds to make the experience more immersive
- The game needs more interesting play by play, and the results need to be more varied. Get rare plays in there too.

Long Term:
- Find a way to get expansion/contraction working
- Standardize the user interface so the game looks and feels more cohesive
- Revamp the GameCast interface, or at a minimum make the dialogs user configurable. I really like the approach that OOTP has taken by mimicing the various Web Casts. Even if PureSim doesn't go this route, this screen still could look more professional.

- I haven't mentioned AI, because I think it's pretty darn good. But if anyone else has a thought in this area, please share it...

I like the career arc changes and the html export. I wish some other beta testers would post their html output online for us to look at.

I could care less about sounds in the game, because I usually watch a ballgame on tv while playing (and turn the sound off in the game).

Expansion and finances are a couple things I hope can be smoothed out after a couple patches.

The problem is that to post the html for a 16 team league, you are talking about over 2000 files, and it takes a while to upload to the server as it's about 18MB worth of data. I'll probably finish the 1957 season of my replay in the next day or so and update my HTML as well. This will be a good update, as the latest beta build added support for player pictures in the HTML. Looks cool...

Nice to hear the game is coming along, appreciate the comments too!

Honestly, I'm not big on the SI interface that OOTP of couse will switch to. I don't know what it is but I can't navigate an SI game to save my life. This will be the first year I don't pre-order OOTP and I bought both OOTP and Puresim last year.

The historical functionality really has me interested and I hope Shaun thinks of a way for historical career expansion and contraction.

Yeah, this forum has been slow lately. Obviously I've not been helping out with that, but since I don't have time right now to help beta test, and I have seen most of the features through the forum, I'm not sure what to write about.
I am really excited about the release of the game, but without interesting conversation to keep me coming back to the forums frequently, I just haven't had a reason to talk.
Hopefully the game will be in a state to be released next week and we will all get to see the new incarnation!

I'm sure it will get busy in a week or so :)

Ah, that is some great news![&o]

Oh, yeah, the fans are lining up at the gate, we're putting the hot dogs on the grill and the beer on ice.

In the Pirates' front office, owner/manager KG is looking over his long-term list of goals, and his short-term wishlist. It's 1946: the war is over, the veterans are coming back, and we're looking forward to a new era of peace, prosperity and increased ticket sales. [;)]
