Witp and Spwaw have become my only wargames I play. I really like SPwaw but Ive played around 20 to 30 games against the AI and have yet to get a victory(spwaw). The best ive gotten so far is a draw.

This is one of the few wargames were you must really read the manual. I have decided I will never quit this game until I Achieve a victory(one day).[:D] When that happens, Ill get another.......... and another......... but first I must get the first one.[&:] That is why I hate this "jewel" sometimes.[:D]

Ok just finished another game. I took all of the victory hexes against the chinese and their national morale broke. There was no chinese victory hexes too take. It looked as if they had no or very few troops left from what I could see.

But the game still gave me a draw. Why?[&:]

OK. Judging by your sig, so seem to be a man after my own heart -- there's a number of built-in Pacific scenarios in-game. There's a couple of Iwo Jima scens that are rewarding - one is small scale --it involves the assault on Suribachi.

The second scenario changed my point of view forever -- it's a BIG invasion scenario -- you command the assault on Iwo. This sparked my interest on how the Marines' prior experience lead up to this point.

Bill Wilder wrote those two Iwo scenarios. I'm priveleged to have met and talked to him. He's a good man, but has the knack of putting you into the thick of desperate combat.

ALL of his scenarios, regardless of theater , have provided inspiration for others to follow.

To get a DV, I think your suppossed to have a 7:1 score ratio or sometihng like that. So if you get 700 points vs the 100 points of the foe, then it's a DV. Marginal is 3:1 or better. Taking heavy casualties tends to help push people into draw or MV range alot.

One thing to remember about scenarios
sometimes the designer sets the points difference needed to claim victory.

Of course Titan you need your time to get an experienced player.
I am playing from many years now...and of course I find the AI: "boring"....
to play some interesting game vs the AI I need to give her three or four time my battle points and limiting my self in purchasing good units.

So don't stop practising, and once you experienced a human opponent forget all that you learned against AI
;)

My biggest challenge after I started the game was not elarning it, nut the transfer from a pure defensive style of late war german tanks to midium war tanks in assaults.

Try using teh WWII campaign with Germany, it really helped em get the basics down and than I learn from there. First campaigns shoudl be fairly easy against the Pols, althought they will give a fair fight.

Thanks for your repleys guys. It helped. Yep KG, I am into the pacific theater more than any other theater but will play the other theaters.

Maybe it was the Movie "The Halls of Montezuma" with Richard Witmark or those years in the infantry station in the far east on all 3 tours. It could be that "little boy" of age 8 reading about the pacific war or hearing the stories from his father about the battles he was in (navy) in and around PI during the invasion in late 44.

I checked it out. May give it a try some time in the future. Ill practice just a little more. Now in a PBEM game(witp). We have been going at it now for over a year.[:D]
