IIRC, the initial split was because the SPWW2 crowd wanted to work on OOB's as a priority, and the SPWAW crowd wanted to make the original DOS program work on Windows. Up till about 10 years ago, all PC's came (basically) with Windows 3.1 AND DOS, (multiple OS's) With newer versions of Windows emerging, many found SP unable to operate.. Both "sides" knew SP was the greatest thing going, and while one side was working on OOB's (for a then select few grognards), the other "side" was looking far into the future and trying to develop a platform which would give SP to a greater number of people, for a longer time. The development of SPWW2 onto a Windows capability is both recent, and rather primitive, (compared to SPWAW's interface.) Both have their strong points, and many of us have both versions on our CPU's........
