SAMWolf -> AI Airborne Drops (5/24/2006 3:09:11 PM)

I'm playing an old Campaign (Weserubung) and in a few scenarios the Allied AI has Airborne drops scheduled for later turns (Turn 5, 7, etc). The glitch is that instead of flying to the drop zone the Dakotas "drive" to the drop zones at about 4 hexes a turn.

I checked the scenarios in the editor and the Dakotas have assigned drop zones, turns and entry/exit hexes. They have a reaction turn of 99 and start on the map edge in the setup screen. Their class is "cargo aircraft" and they have a speed of 4 in the OOB editor. I thought maybe the speed was the problem but I noticed that most planes have a speed of 3 or 4.

I am using version 8.403. Any ideas on what could be causing his behavior?

Two things:
1. Possibly the changes in OOB data between now and when the scenario was built have caused the plane units to become "corrupt", so they don;t work correctly. This could happen if the UNit SLot has changed; most unit data is kept in the scenario file, except for things like Unit Class, LBM and ENC file numbers, and Weapons. If a different unit now occupies the Slot that the plane did in a previous OOB, the game will still treat it as a plane, but will reference the Slot for the Class. If the new unit is classed, say, as a Medium Tank, the planes will assume that Class and act accordingly.

2. A corruption in the scenario data that processes these "delayed" airdrops. If pre-game airdrops work for both sides, but delayed ones don't, then some corruption in the file is a likely candidate.

Either way, the only real solution is to edit the scenario, delete and rebuy the transports, and re-assign the drops. Then test it to see if they work; if so, then the modified scenairo can be re-assigned to the campaign.

Thanks. I tried reassigning the drops and that didn't work. I'll try deleteing and rebuying the transports.

This is a OOB corruption issue since the campaign was done in SPWAW 5.0, over 3 years ago. The campaign needs to be reworked with the most current version but we were waiting until the OOB changes were finally done -- but SPWAW went through a series of constant changes over the years and the updates got lost in the shuffle.

One day I plan to update it (and Guadalcanal 1942) with current version of SPWAW.

We can redo it for SPWAW Enhanced too.

I hope you can upgrade it, it's an interesting campaign and I want to retry it with a different force core force. So far I haven't gotten the AI air drops to work.[&:]

When I update, I will use the new Enhanced version. [:)] I will send you guys the corrected version for posting.

we got a few done, but some take awhile, as I found out when i started editing Long Long Road to victory..

Oh well, editing campaigns will keep me busy now that Enhanced is finished.
