GeneralFlash -> Question on Centers (6/3/2006 12:05:21 AM)

Since this is my first post here, let me just say how much I've enjoyed Maximum Football and how impressed I am in you David that you tackled this sort of programming challenge on your own.

My question is on the database for the leagues. I've noticed a lot of positions (like center, kick returner) have no or very few players in them when you generate a roster. I have been busy creating my own customs players for my own leagues by editing te database. I have several centers to add, but should I make these guys centers or just offensive lineman.

I ask this because in watching the arcade mode of players I've created, if a player gets injured and the depth charts are reordered, the center is always replaced by an offensive lineman.

These are specialized positions. They can be replaced by more standard positions if the need arises. The difference between a centre and a 'typical' o-linement is smarts. In Maximum-Football a centre is normally a notch more intelligent than other linemen. Kick Returners are also a speciality position. Some teams often have players that specialize in this position and it's all they do. If worse came to worse however, an WR or RB could fill in.

Just an FYI though, I'm currently reworking the way the depthchart system works in the game. This isn't going to change any of the position designations, but will allow users to have more control over who goes where.

I guess that means that DB and DL are still going to be generic positions...[:@] Sorry, but lumping CB and safety together, as well as DT and DE just isn't right. They are completely different positions, and require different skill sets.
