Walewander -> To take this thread a little further... (6/6/2006 11:42:07 PM)

When I get really bored or stressed out, I like to take a piece of paper and start charting the statistics of various imaginary pro athletes. It's like a little numerical universe over which I have complete control. I've been doing this since I was around 10 years old. In the beginning, all of the players were superstars... As I grew up, I started dreaming up mediocre players who had the occasional brush with greatness. I'm a little strange.

So yeah, what I'm trying to say is that Pure Sim is the perfect game for me. I can't even begin to imagine how many pieces of loose leaf notebook paper I've filled up with stats and then torn up, only to begin another player minutes later.

I played Stratomatic for a while, too...

Nothingman -> RE: To take this thread a little further... (6/7/2006 1:41:17 AM)

Age: 25

Hometown: Ames, Iowa
Occupation: Customer Service Representative

Favorite team: Oddly enough the Atlanta Braves.  When I was much younger I was good friends with someone who moved to Iowa from the Atlanta area so he was a huge Braves fan.  We watched a lot of baseball and in Iowa back then the only games regularly on tv were the Cubs and the Braves so I got to know the Braves very well.  I became a fan at a good time.  It was the early 90's and the Braves were still 2-3 years from respectable so I can say I was a fan before their recent greatness.  By greatness I of course mean regular season greatness. Occupation: Automobile Insurance Adjustor

Favorite team: Texas Rangers

I also enjoy going to the Frisco Roughriders (the Rangers AA affiliate) since it's much closer to my house than Arlington where the Rangers play.  And it's always nice to see the "players of the future" before they reach the show.

Occupation: Currently working for the Federal Bureau for Worker's Compensation.

Favorite team: Atlanta Braves. I lived in Atlanta back when you could go, get the nosebleed seats, and walk down to sit right over the dugout because there were maybe 1500 people in Fulton County Stadium. I've tried to get back fairly regularly for games, because I love the experience and loved meeting the players. I've gotten quite a few autographs over the years, including Greg Maddox's on his rookie card, John Smoltz on his card from his first year with the Braves, Tim Raines when he was playing with the Expos, but the best one I have was one of my favorite players and people in baseball Hank Aaron, who I actually got to talk to for a while. Very nice man.

Not surprisingly we skew a bit on the "old side" on here demographics-wise guys.

Guess I'll send a note to Geritol and Depends to see if they would like to buy some in-game advertising. [;)]

Home: am in Sterling Hieghts (Detroit) Michigan, until next week, when we are moving to Eaton Rapids/Onondaga Michigan (thats a big move for those who dont know the map of Michigan, that distance south instead of west puts me in Ohio, and that distance east instead of west puts me in anouther country! of course that distance north puts me in lake huron, so its all about perspective i guess.
fave team, growing upp was the Oakland A's, Loved that green and yellow uniforms, but as i got older i realized the Tigers where pretty interesting too, besides they played games in teh same time zone i was living! so i pull for the Tigers these days.

Seems like at nearly 23, I'm the youngest on the boards, at least of those who has responded in this thread. Another question that would be interesting to see would be whether the different fictional - historical - current major league PureSim players fall along age lines.

Anyway, it's most likely because of the more mature ages that this board stays so civilized, something I'm really glad about. Thanks everyone!
