ORIGINAL: larryfulkerson I kinda like FitE although I've not played it past turn 80 something, and have lost in the two times I played it PBEM ( from December to June ) and it's still kinda a mystery how the Axis is supposed to win, even though I saw my opponent do it once. It's my experience that due to the limited number of Russian units, the German player is always able to find a weak spot and exploit it, and eventually the Soviet player just isn't getting enough reinforcements to rebuild. Mind you, this is based on one hotseat game. Man, I LOVED FitE/Scorched Earth board game! We played continuously for years after I got out of college. Been a long time now, though. Generally, the Russkies won, unless the Germans got lucky or the Russkies made a mistake in 41 or early/mid 42. then it turned into a game of "How much can the Germans hold?" In 43 the Germans were awesome...in one place. Everywhere else, the Russians ground them to dust, slowly and inexorably. The Germans are desperate to catch the Russians overextend a thrust, and if they do, say goodby to all of those lovely, expensive armored/mech corps. Great fun, but lots of time. That is what I always wanted from TOAW, a way to play the Eastern front solo and more quickly...no more counting hexes for supply, remembering ranges and availability, etc.
