marovici -> Jap unit size over 100 (6/13/2006 12:30:39 AM)

Well I have seen it, but just did not think about it that much. Now I am wondering what is the deal with this. Why are units growing more then their TOE as represented by 100/100? I think that there are allied units that only have regimental size and then turn into divisions (India?), but engineering units? 200, 300, av support, 500, 600 engineers.

Any clues?

Is this the AI? It normally will happen with the AI...

well AI played it, before it stalled and I took over. So I guess that might be it. Thanks.

a lot of jap units atart out larger than their TOE. they're typically overstuffed with some extra unit type (aviation support or infantry squads).

I never paid close attention, but I think a few units have actually grown a bit largers than 100 (to like 101 or 102) after being in a large city for months on end.

marovici -> RE: Jap unit size over 100 (6/14/2006 7:34:49 PM)

Actually it is not only Japs, but also allies who go over 100. In allies case they went to 105, 106 while Japs are 160-170. Perhaps something is off in my game.

aletoledo -> RE: Jap unit size over 100 (6/14/2006 11:59:08 PM)

I'm sure those 160-170 units started out that way. I think that the idea behind that was the japanese made some very task specific units and the 160-170 units are mostly the small NLF (naval landing forces) that have extra infantry in them above what you'd expect from a typical regiment.

Sardaukar -> RE: Jap unit size over 100 (6/15/2006 5:33:38 PM)

I finished Grand Campaign CHS1.06 against AI in Jan 1945. When I invaded Iwo Jima, I found out that IJ construction unit had grown to something like 5100/5430... Even when support units defend only with 1/10 of strength, it was nasty surprise. Esp since assault value of other uniuts was just 36....[:D]. Had to bring another Marine division ASAP...[8D] I checked enemy units after victory screen, and was somewhat surprised...

I see 100+ units for some of my allied units. Nothing to match the size of some of the jap units you are talking about. There are plenty which start at 100+ but there are also some which grow larger during the game. As far as I can tell if there is a good surplus in the pool an lcu will draw extra stuff becuase it can. Units at 105 are typical.

This is different than the programmed "overgrowth" of LCUs for the AI. i'm not sure the modest growth (100-120) of LCUs (seen in PBEMs sometimes) is a "feature" or "bug", but it is no biggie either way.

Finding 250 CD guns on an atoll due to overgrowth IS a biggie! [X(]

marovici -> RE: Jap unit size over 100 (6/15/2006 8:00:00 PM)

Small growth in units is no biggie, although I was just curious why it happens. On the other hand I did see some Jap units with 2000 or 3000 instead of 100, but these were managed by AI. So although it seems according to what I heard so far that overgrown units do not generally happen in PBEM for people that play against AI this is not too good of a news.

Feinder -> RE: Jap unit size over 100 (6/15/2006 8:23:27 PM)

I see it with Allied units also.

A few of the Aus Divs grow to about 375 squads, instead of 325.
Several of the USA RCTs grow (or start) to about 175 squads, instead of 125.

I haven't seen any of the regular USA Divs or Marine Divs grow larger. And my UK and Indian Divs are always too shot up to know wether the grow too big.

A bit late coming to the thread, but I have a good story. If anyone played the Turning Point campaign with Japan, there are a whole bunch of NLF units at Truk at about 40%. I loaded all of them on transports for some stupid reason. When the got to point B, all the units had gone from 40% to 130%. Bug or not, I like it a lot. In fact, I'd love to see a feature with which you could add unit LCU components the same way you add planes and pilots. I'm not naive enough to think it will ever happen, but I like the idea.

That's an interesting observation. I wonder if it's at all indicative of the problem. Maybe LCU get's loaded (parent and several fragments). Parent grows on board ship (is this possbile?). Then when the unit is landed, the parent (now larger) + fragments is greater than the original unit.

Hm.

Onime No Kyo -> RE: Jap unit size over 100 (6/21/2006 5:08:46 PM)

That could have been it, except that they were tiny units to begin with, and easily fit on a 1500 AP. I dont have the save, because I'm just too cool, or something. But heres a pic for what its worth.

Mike Solli -> RE: Jap unit size over 100 (6/21/2006 5:37:07 PM)

Many SNLFs begin the game overstrength. I believe the "full" strength of the unit is 48, 4, 8 and 48 respectively. That's not a glitch.
