ADavidB -> "Zipang" to be released in the US (6/16/2006 1:19:39 PM)

"Zipang", the recent military sci-fi anime about a modern Japan Defense Force AEGIS cruiser that time slips back to the Battle of Midway, will be released by Geneon Entertainment (formally Pioneer) in the US on region 1 DVD starting in September of this year. From the looks of the preliminary announcement the first DVD will contain four episodes and a box for a msrp of $24.95. The preliminary announcement doesn't indicate if it will be both dubbed and subbed into English, but that's likely.

I've seen the Japanese version of the series and own it on the Japanese region 2 DVDs. It's well animated, well acted and very well written. For a more detailed review of the series that I did, see:

But with an ending rather than a cop-out. [;)]

Keep an eye out for it.

You are oddly close to one of the most intense episodes in the entire series... [:D]

The ships is the "Mirai" ("Future")... "Zipang" is a mythical land of gold

Three torpedoes eh?... You need to buy yourself a lotto ticket or play the horses tonight, you are "on a hot streak" (sort of ... ) [:D] (I can't remember off hand if the sub is the Wahoo or not...)

sounds interesting. A friend of mine knowing that I am a ww2 history buff recommended it to me couple of months ago, but it slipped my mind. Now that it is on witp board I will have to check it out.[:D]

I'm betting on Nautilus, since (iirc) she was the only US sub to get into action in the battle. Don't think Wahoo was commissioned at the time...

I'll have to put episodes 3 and 4 on some time tonight to check it out and see if they say which US sub it is...

You mean I have to wait until September? How will I live in the meantime?

That would presume that you consider your present state to be "living".
