Whats the most usefull background or support unit u've ever played in the SPWAW games. And yes I mean plural!!
I remember a little russian kolminetes minelaying armoured vehicle from Versions gone by that could lay 10 mines in any line u drove it.
WHY did that little beuti disappear???

Another mention has to go to what can be done with stuff like the SAS jeep patrols that u can buy out of the french OOB's or the marine listening posts and long range jungle patrols from the Assie and phillipino OOB's their fast movement and ample firepower are a behind the lines nightmare if used and distributed properly. My vote goes to the kettenkrad. Three of these little mites, one with a recon unit, one with an mg, and one with a light AT gun, such as the 28mm, makes a good recce unit, or support unit for paras/glider troops.

Well, you could obtain all of the above with just ONE Sahariana AS42.
Fast recon vehicle with 47mm AT gun, one ot two 8mm MG/AAMG plus some inner carry capability ...

Why going for the lesser when you could earn the best? [;)]

The challenge, I suppose. Plus in the recce role, several units can cover a larger area than a single one. (The main job of recon units being to spot the enemy, determine their strength and composition, if possible, and report back to their HQ, rather than to get into involved fire fights.)

Scouts and recon are going to die. In a campaign game I try not to have to many core forces as Recon, it is a waste of core slots. Better to have several recon units that are weaker than one stronger one, as their life expectance when doing their job is not long.

Riun T -> RE: BACKGROUND UNITS? (6/26/2006 9:47:07 PM)

I layer my recon purchased units in two bands< one to cresent my HQ at anywhere between 5-12 hexes to give "THE BOSS" an early warning proximity buffer, and the other in relative Frontline dispertion and sometimes put under the FO's command,as a broad field vission connected coverage.
