jcd38 -> interceptions & fumbles data constants request (6/29/2006 8:20:51 AM)

dave,

we could use data constants in the maindata.mdb file for interceptions and fumbles.
the issue of the amount of interceptions has never really been resolved; the only way i can get a decent amount of interceptions is to raise defensive back's catch ratings; then we have db's with catch ratings as good as or better than wr's. not a good thing; its a workaround but not really a solution.
i'm hoping you can put these data constants in the upcoming patch. [&o]
right now as it is, this kind of takes the some fun/strategy out of the game.

thanks
ps data constants for penalties would be cool.

jcd38:

Just out of curiosity, what do you consider a "decent amount of interceptions"? I've been getting a few each game I've played with the latest patch.

I like this Idea [:)]

around 3-4% of all pass attempts is typical in the pros. that's the decent amount i mean/or goal that i'm looking for. right now, if i adjust db's catch ratings to say around 85 max and wr's around 95 max then i get less than 1% interceptions.
as i'm testing my plays and ratings, I realized a data constant(s) would be a good tool to implement. if the interception rate is set as a constant/variable, thus changeable, then in all likelihood db's could have a lower catch rating than wr's; in real football, db's aren't as good as wr's when it comes to going for the ball.

mjh,

i'm curious. do you know the db's catch rating range that your using; is it the default?
if i use the default maindata ratings then i get a 3-4% interception rate, which is good, but the db's have high catch ratings, as good as or even better than wr's. i was adjusting the player ratings more to reflect my tastes in player rating ranges. i.e. db's i thought should have a lower catch rating than wr's. so after i lowered the default db's catch ratings to around a range of 65-75 then i started to not get as many interceptions.
If there was a data constant for the interceptions, i could raise that and leave my db's catch rating at the range of 65-75. at least for now that's the conclusion i've come up with at the moment. without a data constant i'll just go back and raise the db's catch rating to default.

I would not mind too see the Maindata.mdb have some Constants to adjust Fumble and Interception Percentages.  If David does do this, I will make an update to my Data Constant Utility on www.fbmax.com.  [:)]

I haven't messed around with any of the player ratings, so I would assume I'm getting the default. I did a quick check and the catch ratings for the DBs are mostly in the low 80s.
