There are two current screens that allow for adjusting performance settings. The first is the small resolution screen pop up screen you get before the game is launched. The second screen is the in-game options screen. Here are a few tips on what these various settting so and how to get better peformance based on your gear.

Resolution Screen Settings:

1. Screen Resolution: - drop it to a lower resolution (like 1024.768), having very high resolutions = a lot more to draw = lower performace

2. Texture Quality; This is usefull for low memory video cards since textures consume a lot of video memory. Rule of thumb is 256K on board video card high textures, 128K video card medium textures, less than a 128K card then set to low texture quality. Note, this is mostly only good for performance if you have low memory since swapping textures in/out of the video card is very bad. If you have good memory then it will not help at all but make the game models look much worse.

3. Antialiasing: This softens and blends edges around things. It is a KILLER. Turn it to 0 to get best performance, turning this up can really wack out performance. (great for screenshots however)

4. Ansotropic Filtering: This blends textures at a distance. It is bad but not as bad as Antialiasing. Turn it to 0 for best peformance

5. LOD Quality (level of detail) - This makes things in the distance get drawn with much lower quality but much faster - this one will really help peformance if you like to play from a very zoomed out veiw. Set to low for best performance.

Next, Once in game, the in-game options screen has 2 key performance settings:

1. Display Shadows: Dynamic creation of shadows is a performance hog. Turn this off for a significant boost to performance. Next to Antialiasing, this is the biggest bang for the peformance buck.

2. Limit Infantry Models: Infantry animate a lot and having a lot of them doing so is a killer. This is why we capped infantry at 3 models originally. but do to popular demand, he removed this cap for people who have top end machines or really want to see more than 3 models. We also set the 'default' to 5 models. Limit Infantry Models will recap the infantry models to 3 regardless as to how many models are specified (currently 5 per group). this will get you a good bit of improvement if there are a lot of infantry in the scenario.

Hope these help explain some of the various settings.
