I rarely can see beyond the first line, and am constantly hit with tac reserves I had no idea were there when I attack, with local res presumably at least one more hex in the rear, it should be fairly hard to detect I would think. If you see a unit move in response to your attacks which isn't moving directly into the attacked hex, that's local reserve. What's more, if your opponent is using local reserve in one place, he might well be using it in others. Plus, diversionary attacks are a good idea anyway. They don't need to be designed for this specific purpose.
