looneyluden -> Does AI follow 5 man rotations or not? (6/30/2006 9:48:27 AM)

I started a league and am 15 games into it. I manage each game myself. So my rotation has each pitcher with 3 starts a piece. But I have been noticing that other teams are not broken down evenly at all as far as games started. Some of the teams doing this were due to injury or maybe the AI just deciding to change their rotation...

However...

here is an example of a team I am playing next where the same 5 men have been in their starting rotation for all fifteen games, but the top three guys in the rotation are getting most of the starts. The top two pitchers have 4 starts each. The third and fourth guys in the rotation have 3 each, and the fifth guy in the rotation has only one start.

I looked at the "player usage" portion of each pitchers player card, and each one is set to "Never skip this pitchers turn in the rotation". So how is it that there is such uneven balance in who is starting for the AI teams?

As far as i can tell, with the way I have the game set up, each pitcher should actually pitch on their turn in the rotation. This is not happening though. Can anyone point me to why this may be happening? My team is doing bad enough without having to face one of the top three pitchers from every team I face each game. I would like to have my batters face a number 4 or 5 man in the rotation sometimes instead of the top 3.

Also for stats purposes I want to keep players from not accumulating an unrealistic amount of innings pitched.

Someone mentioned this may have to do with pitcher recovery time being too good.  Here is  a link to an earlier post that may be of some help to you.

Thanks for pointing me there Pronk. I did a forum search for "rotations", but didn't come up with that thread. I changed the xml file like they suggested and now starters are fatiguing more. Should fix the problem, will have to wait and see.

I've also noticed that over 20 games into a 1989 season, other teams only have 4 pitchers with any games started. Also, I'll finish a game, and sim to the next day where it tells me that I'm facing some schmuck with an era over 10, I'll turn the game off and leave, and when I come back, I'm facing Mark Langston. Happens all the time, not an isolated incident.

juno and I found that if you manage each game the starters recover in 2 days and the AI will start them again.
We both set up a test league and simmed all the games. When we looked at the stats for the simmed league numbers were fine.
Dont know if this is a bug or just a AI problem when you manage each game.
Try changing your pitchers recovery to this in the XML file.
<RECOVERY_PITCHER Recovery_Starter="47" Recovery_Reliever="40" />
I've had pretty good luck with it in my league.
Remember to go back and change this after every patch.

Chris

Thanks for the updated info CBeasley37. [:)]

Hmm, would the default recovery ratings imply that it works more realistically using a 4-man rotation, with a notional 5th slot being shared by several spot starters?

Gonna bump this back to the top -- I wanna get some thoughts on my previous post.
