I think I will give Austria a spin, or maybe Russia.

Russia would be a good first game so I would have an easy chance to reacquant myself with the game mechanics.

Any. Wish I were facing this problem.

That's a good one. [:D]

When the game come out I plan to play France and crush the AI. That's the best way for me to learn the rules so I will better understand the game in a multi-player pbem game.

In a multi-player pbem game I would like to play either Russia or Turkey.

YohanTM2 -> RE: Which country will you play your first game with? (7/1/2006 7:09:47 AM)

Don't play France or GB if you want to figure the game out right away, even versus the AI.

Try Spain or Turkey as you get to move fleets and armies without overkill getting in the way.

argaur -> RE: Which country will you play your first game with? (7/1/2006 10:56:33 AM)

Austria, no doubt

I know how to play EiA. I have been playing it for 10 years. I just need to learn the differences between EiA and CEiA. I would argee that playing Spain or Turkey is good for people completely new to EiA.

Agreed Hoche. I was not really replying to you, more just as a general suggestion.

My favourite is Austria. I think that the better great powers for green people are Russia and Turkey, and the most difficult are Austria, Prussia, Great Britain and Spain. France hast difficult too, but I'm a pure allied, I prefer fight against le petit caporal

Against the computer I'm going to have to play France the first time.

what can I say? I love being able to say "I am Napoleon!" and retain the use of my limbs.

being less familair with the Empire of Arms boardgame than the rest if you (I am more familiar with War and Peace and GMT's The Napoleonic Wars), I think i still like the idea of the military-political-diplomatic challenge that France provides.

Ursa MAior -> RE: Which country will you play your first game with? (7/6/2006 12:47:19 AM)

I will take Spain or Turkey in the first PBEM right agter release. Anyone up to the challange?

rod -> RE: Which country will you play your first game with? (7/6/2006 1:37:41 AM)

Ursa MAior your on, you take spain and i take turkey and we have some fun in afrika.

Well I plan to play a full campaing against the AI to learn the ins and outs of the computer version. But after the I plan to be real active with PBEM game. Then I would love tp play against you. Don't worry you can trust me. [sm=00000622.gif]

Ursa MAior -> RE: Which country will you play your first game with? (7/6/2006 10:55:22 AM)

All righty. Well I am a type of guy who likes to risk. So will take gead on against anybody. Worst case scenario : I lose. [:D]

Agreed. 1st game solo will be France to get a feel for the AI. 1st MP will be Spain I hope because I think Spain is more fun than a sack full of wildcats :D

Murat -> RE: Which country will you play your first game with? (8/12/2006 10:03:52 PM)

Solo I am even more in favor of France now that I have thought it over more. Sure you might lose the game but France has to do everything there is to do in the game - a great way to learn the mechanics!  In multiplayer I will stick by Prussia for being the best newbie country. You know who your friends are and you can get a lot of help from them, plus you only miss out on naval warfare and Britain can explain that to you. So the above post is what I want to do, this post is what I think a newbie should do.

Joisey -> RE: Which country will you play your first game with? (8/13/2006 6:49:18 PM)

First game for me would definitely be France with the AI set to max difficulty.  I want to see how good the AI is going to be right away.  Then I'll try all the rest of the countries.  If AI is poor, then playing Sweden as a major power might still be a challenge (if we can do that).

I hope the decision not to include a 1792 scenario isn't final.  I really think it ought to be part of the game.

Sardonic -> RE: Which country will you play your first game with? (8/14/2006 1:06:37 AM)

Bid Low and play whatever I get =)

Not my fault people bid too high to win.

McGuire -> RE: Which country will you play your first game with? (8/14/2006 5:47:46 PM)

First game solo: Prussia!
I really love fighting NAPI. And this way you can get some challange on the AI concerning alliances....
And after all I was really poor in the naval combats the last few times. You don't have that problem with Prussia [:D]
And I really love that feature of saving MP!

First of all is testing the game!

ess1 -> RE: Which country will you play your first game with? (8/14/2006 7:54:07 PM)

I'll be too old to be interested[;)][;)]

I think that Austria would be all but impossible to program an AI to run competently.

Here's an idea: Manually run all the countries yourself but France and see what the AI does.

yammahoper -> RE: Which country will you play your first game with? (8/24/2006 12:07:19 AM)

GB for me. Going for africa and a war against the turk, then after I have the man power, I will try to do something that was alful dificult in the board game...take sweden from the russian and force him to surrender by taking St. Petersburg!

Now if I can just talk the Au or Pr AI into going up russias belly...

Joisey -> RE: Which country will you play your first game with? (8/24/2006 3:44:17 AM)

I expect GB to be one of the easier countries to play against the AI. It will be very interesting to see, however, how easy or hard it is to lead/manipulate Austria, Prussia, and Russia into a coalition against France.

Also will be interesting to see how the French AI reacts when he is marching on Moscow and you land 8 Corps (whole british army plus Portugal) in Brittany. [;)]

Thirdly, will be interesting to see if the AI ever tries to challenge the Brits at sea.

delatbabel -> RE: Which country will you play your first game with? (8/24/2006 10:52:33 AM)

Playing solo I'd probably go Russia, or France.

In a multi-player PBEM game I'd probably pick Prussia or Austria. Having all of the computer players gang up on you as one of those two would be no fun.

MPHopcroft1 -> RE: Which country will you play your first game with? (8/25/2006 2:28:09 AM)

I'd have to give France a try, abeit not expecting to do all that well at first.

qgaliana -> RE: Which country will you play your first game with? (10/30/2006 7:40:01 PM)

Old thread, but wow I just realised I will get to actually pick a country when and if this comes out!?

With the old victory point bid system and my spendthrift playing partners I wound up with Austria in every game save one. It got to the point I was coming up with steps for a "John-took-the bullet" dance of celebration.

Austria will NOT be my first game, maybe my seventh...

yammahoper -> RE: Which country will you play your first game with? (10/31/2006 2:40:22 AM)

Our old house rule from back in the days we actually played yhis game, and layed a lot, was a 7 point max bid, with a one point minimum. We all bid for the nations one through seven and revealed, rolled 1d6 for tie bids.
