You mean that there is an organization of people like Brady??? Noooo...... trying to read posts written like those sentences in Pasternaksi's article gives me a headache... I can understand the occasional typo or mispelled word, but enough is enough! [:'(]

Hi all,

A new style of posting seems to be evolving on the forum and I’d like to be sure that I understand it’s structure.

First, terminology: “ridiculous”, “nonsense”, “flawed”, “foolishness”, “stupid nonsense”, and “stupidity” all seem to mean the same thing: “something doesn’t work like I think it should”

And, of course “fix it”, which appears to mean “make it work exactly like I think it should”.

And it’s important to be as rude and forceful as possible. After all, there’s nothing like being rude to people to make them want to help you.

Proper spelling seems to have gone out of style.

Dan and Joe - please do not think that WitP community (and I think that is the proper word because we have been together for such long time - since UV) is feeling like some posts you mention above indicate...

99.9999% of us here love and respect you guys [sm=00000436.gif] and your tremendous effort - please continue just like you were doing! [&o][&o][&o]

On the spelling spectrum, from the functionally illiterate to the National Spelling Bee champions, most of us are somewhere in the middle, especially those of us who attended public schools [8D] Living in a glass house, therefore, I tend to hold my fire..still, there are times when the spelling error is so obvious it is incompatible with the normal functioning of the nervous system.

Don is right, of course. Polite requests are more likely to be heeded. Its a little like telling a waiter your steak is **** and sending back to the kitchen...you are just asking for some ...adulteration..[;)]..when it comes back.

If you tick off the code writers enough, they could easily make all 80 kg bomb hits cause a magazine explosion on any Essex class carrier[:)]

Easy...malcontent posts on the forum...IP number gets added to "malcontent list"...then when same malcontent logs on for upgrade or even the digitial download...his personalized, devilishly fiendish booby trapped software is welcomed onto his computer. Now all Pete float planes have the durability rating of a B-29 and the air to air combat ability of a P-51...and they carry nuclear 80kg bombs. [:'(]

Don, I think some of these posts you are going to claim being 'bad' are just a case of language barrier as a lot of the board users arent native speakers of english.

Language barrier or not, a lot of unproductive whining has been going on...

Ron,

I heard a rumor that it took over 60% of the manhours devoted to the project. Actually this was done by special request for the Canadian Prime Minister.

I have no idea why...[:)]

@ Oliver: we are trying to lighten the tone here and put things back into a friendlier light. I for one would hate to see Don or Joe or both get fed up with the criticism and pack it in. They have done a marvelous job, and have a bug or two yet to kill.

So, let's keep it on the cordial side, shall we, ya creeps (this word does not translate well into any other language)?

vonSchnitter -> RE: Posting Format (7/7/2006 11:16:13 PM)

Salute !
Everyone should be allowed to vent his frustration once. Even shouting it out ...
I have posted my rediculous "bug" I found a "bug", "cheat", my history books proove otherwise posting about a year or so - two years ? - back.

And I think, I managed all of the above in one posting [:D]

Guess what, some of the "cooler minds" around enlightened me in a very polite manner with good arguments. I felt a fool nevertheless.
And started to toe the line with much more caution and deliberation - including less catching "head-lines"

Just a kind of suggestion, if I may make so bold a statemet.

Cheers

John 3rd -> RE: Posting Format (7/7/2006 11:49:57 PM)

I want to voice my support for the moderators and those continuing to work on this game.  It is not perfect but comes pretty close!  What other games can model what has been attempted here?

Though improvements can be made, you guys DO NOT deserve 75% of the crap you get!

As to spelling, I think it is simply symptomatic of society 'dumbing down.'

I am with you here at 100% ( and honestly, this is the first time ever since I joind this board [:'(]). the anger should be left outside.

I understand frustration ( ask me - I play Xargun [8|] ) but the guys here do a superb job and we should support them where we can. ppl should post their problems more into question-style ( i.e. asking why this or that happnes in the game) instead of the flame/blame style imho.

Don, I really appreciate your work. The problem with people coming up with such posts (including me) is, that there are things (still from the beginning) that ARE e.g. ridicoulos. [:(] I think in the first year mostly the bugs were a problem which are nearly gone now (plz don´t shoot me![;)]). And now there are the problems in some aspects of the game with how the game was designed and people are crying about it and probably have done it earlier too. At this stage most players have played the game for 2 years and I think I can say that those players, including me, love this game.

Again, I really love this game and please don´t take such posts as personal attacks as the people around here surely appreciate your work! But still there are aspects that were simply overlooked during the design and can´t be explained as historical nor realistical. I think the "rude" intonation of those posts is because people are having a nerve break down in front of their monitors when they see 50000:2000 casualties when attacking a base that has been cut off for 6 months or when 600 planes are shot down for 20 defenders and not a single plane came through even if the attacker was high experienced (which wasn´t so in reality, I know). And so on... It´s not just that people want it exactly to be like they think it should be, but most of them want it to be like that it´s possible to understand it with common sense that this could be realistic (not historic).

Second to that. I have overcome my primary hatred towrds micromanagement because of WitP. So if things go awry, thus negating many hours of MM, cuz of programming or design decison (or a chapter in the manual unknown to me[:D]) I lose my temper quickly. I am a hot tempred mediterrenean-type person. Therefore I apologize if I was too harsh on you, it was not meant as a personal attack or something. I just wanted to let my disappointment to be heard.

So keep up the good work, and dont take us TOO seriously. [;)]

Now did he mean "the wit of a mine" or "the wit of a mime"? Both are less than ideal...

BrucePowers -> RE: Posting Format (7/8/2006 4:01:36 AM)

Don;
I agree with what the people are saying in this thread. I try to stay positive (I think I do a pretty good job). I come here for enjoyment and to relax. I get both. If a thread line goes too negative I stop reading it let alone post to it. That is my way to not contribute to mean or negative threads. As for spelling, I am one of the guilty ones. It's not all bad spelling. I can not type worth a darn. I never have and probably never will. That being said, if I notice an error, I will use the edit function to fix it. The Matrix team, and since this thread is in the War in the Pacific section, the WiTP team in particular have done a world of good for computer gaming. My hat is off to the professionals who have delivered such great products. Thank you for your efforts.
