RooseBolton -> Encirclement vs Destruction (7/7/2006 4:06:01 PM)

Looking thru the supply rules. I can't find a difinitive rule listing the effects being surrounded and out of supply has on units. Is there a time frame in which one can calculate the death of OoS units, (do OoS simply surrender after "X" turns?) Or is attacking surrounded units a quicker and more effiencent plan in TOAW.

Which method is more adviseable?

Steve

..no time frame, it depends on the unit, how good (prof/readiness/supply) it is when surrounded, and maybe on air supply possibilities

..as to attacking, it's a judgement call, how badly do you need rid, what's attacking what, can you keep it in place with the surrounding units

When unsupplied, they lose supply each turn equal to the number of half-days in a turn. So if you are playing at 1 day/turn, they'll lose only 2 supply per turn. It will take FOREVER for them to wither under those circumstances.

On the other hand, if you are playing at 1 week/turn, they are losing 14 supply per turn so after a few turns of withering their combat power will be pretty heavily reduced.

So at the higher scales, being OoS is a far worse situation than at the lower scales were its more of a local inconvenience. You dont get replacements and anything that dies is actually dead when OoS, but that doesnt make it any easier to attack the units per se. They will start to suffer 'desertions' over time, but high proficiency units can still go some time before that starts to take a toll.

Personally, I'd prefer to see the supply amount lost per turn be something that can be set per scenario.

Yeah. Can't go far wrong with this principle, keeping the existing values as the default.
