Marten -> airlift again... (v. 1.5) (7/13/2006 9:38:51 AM)

i've been airlifting base unit to the empty, friendly base. after two turns i've noticed that only air support and infantry units were transfered to the target base.
sooo...
1. i've put all the remaining hardware onboard of AK's and moved it to the rest of the unit.
2. then i've noticed that a part of the unit remained at their original location. i've inspeced this part and there was nothing inside: not a single man, AAA, radar... null, nothing, nada... but the cost of transfering it was huge: about 50000 AK!
3. a single APD of mine loaded part of the unit from the target location, and ferried it back. when it merged with huge leftover suddenly the load cost drop down to normal level.
4. since APD delivered infantry only, i've decided to airlift them back. at the first glance it was a success: the whole unit was airlifted in one day. but now at the target location there is no troop icon, even though the troops are there. i have air support at this base, i have flak, i can click at the location of the map where landforces icon should be and check this unit.
big question: will it dissapear in the near future like it's icon, or stay there despite the lack of visual presentation???

What version are you patched up to? and what version did the game start at?

I just had an incident where a small fragment of the the 7th ID vanished as I was moving it by air from Anchorage to meet up with its parent unit, which is in the process of invading Paramushire.  I airlifted it from Anchorage to Dutch Harbor, waited one turn and then airlifted it to Amchitka.  After leaving it there for two turns it vanished.  I'm patched to 1.801 and playing the AI.

Did the fragment, or the parent unit vanish?
Parent unit vanishing ... bad.
Fragment vanishing ... it could have wasted away depending on support/supply/disabled devices. [Depends on what you meant be a "small fragment".]

This problem can be easily resolved by stopping your air transport for a couple of turns, after more than 50% of the unit has already been transported.

The fragment then becomes the parent unit, and you will transport the fragment from then on.

The part that vanished was a small fragment (20 or so support troops) and Amchitka has a size 5 AF and port with over 25000 supply pts.  The parent unit was moved by sealift to invade Paramushire (in the Kuriles).  As I said, after airlifting the fragment from Dutch Harbor to Amchitka it vanished after two turns.  I know I shouldn't sweat losing 20 or so troops, but I've started to rely on airlifting LCUs again and don't want to loose whole LCUs, like when I lost the entire Indian 25th ID after I airlifted it to Myktina from Ledo.

Units/fragments that get small enough are (very) occasionally attrited by the code.
