itsjustme -> So I met this lunacy game and I can't get her out of my mind (7/17/2006 7:20:07 PM)

Hi all,

So I have a lunacy game wherein the Japanese are in almost the best position I've ever seen. My command of the allies has been a complete disaster. Now I need someone to take over for the Japanese player and continue the game (and handing me my head). Here's the basic lay of the land.

India:

Only Karachi stands. Reinforcements are on their way but no major reinforcements arrive there for about another 30-40 days.

China:

Only chunking stands and it is heavily engaged.

DEI-

All owned by the IJN with the exception of some training bases for the Japanese air force.

OZ and New Zealand:

Still in Allied Hands

PM and Noumea:

Owned by the Japanese

CENTPAC:

Only the Hawaiian Islands, Canton and Fiji remain in Allied hands (and that's only because the IJN hasn't gotten around to taking them yet.

So, if you are interested in learning more about this game, an after action report was written and its entitled "Lunacy or Shrewdness." As the game between me and my former opponent is not active I have read page 22 of that report, but know nothing about the current state of the Japanese side so all of that would remain a mystery to me.

Thanks in advance and I hope someone picks up the banner.

Good luck finding an oponent for that puppy...this is the one where Nemo bombarded Soerabaja on Turn 1 right?[:D]

Thanks Ron.  I would think it should be a pretty attractive game for a Japanese player.  The player is in an almost invulnerable position.    Feel free to send a taker my way.

I thought you were looking for a player to replace you??? I don't blame you for bailing after taking it up the butt with every possible exploit in the book but as soon as one revealed itself to be contrary to either Nemo's understanding or simple existance he called you a "cheater"! I'll never play a guy like that because it is a one trip pony. You showed excellent gamesmanship and I believe he pulled a tantrum or some crap like that. After all the bullshit he pulled, just because he failed to catch a simple game mechanic he calls you a cheater and screams for help. Unbelievable and frankly, unconscionable. He had better change his moniker or nobody in their right mind will play him. Pathetic really....

Are you expecting the new Jap to play on past auto-victory? Which I assume is pretty much a lock??

Actually I think the Allied player is just so disgusted with his opponent"s personal viewpoint that he is simply opyting out in style. Don't blame you dude...your opponent is beyond help.[8|][:-] Allis is Newtonian until he errs.

No, Ron, he's looking for someone to take over for Nemo so he (Itsjustme) can continue playing as the Allies.

Auto victory is long since passed, so yes, I am looking for a Japanese player who plays past that point.  This was always a game to the finish and not a points game.

Thanks for looking.[&o]

itsjustme, I read through the AAR and I would have to compare that game with going picking up an ugly woman. You're drunk at the time, everything seems cool, then you wake up the next morning and say "what was I thinking?" Man, you need to play a Japanese player that will give you a go at it but keep things real. Japan taking India? Fighting about Karichi? The world does not end at the edge of the map... Give that game a rest a fight a serious historically based game.

Glad to see another Charleston native.  I went to Wando many years ago and my parents live west of the ashley.

I know that this lunacy game is very different from others, but think of the wonderful colossal battles that are to come during the allies slog across the pacific in the coming years.  The "modern" aircraft that will come available and actually matter in the later years of the war.  I suspect that it will be a really fun game albeit completely ahistorical.

As an avid reader of that AAR it was strange watching him blow up... I would have been
rather sympathetic to his plight had it been a "historical" game...But if the IJN gets warp drive
on turn 1, it is hard to get all upset when the engine does not favor him....Also a stock game
gives Japan some big advantages that he had no hesitation exploiting (expanded transport capability of AKs/APs and also the front bases of China are not built up (they are in Nik Mod with the express purpose of slowing down the IJA blitzkreig). I mean it is not like the issue is not well understood (it is) and the whole point was anything goes.....

Rather disappointing...

And as you point out, while he can not take Karachi it is not like you are in a great position!....

You get credit for me for both tenacity and a strong masochistic streak. The masochistic streak is twofold
A. in spite of the slaughter you are still at it
B. you remained civil in the face of some rather rude and overstated comments by he who will
not be mentioned.

Jeffs,

I appreciate the comments and am also dissapointed in the way it worked out. Nevertheless, I think that the game is still VERY viable for someone who wants to step into about as good a Japanese position as is possible. I don't mind taking the beatings up front, its the thought that I won't have the opportunity to return the favor in '44-45 and yes, '46 that really irritate me.

Love to have you pick up the gauntlet if you are so inclined.
