*Lava* -> Another idea to be ignored.... (7/18/2006 7:44:38 PM)

Hi!

Would be nice if we could put small .bmp pictures into "recent news" via the events editor.

So you take Iwo Jima and the next turn you see a small photo of the marines rising the flag on Mt. Suribachi.

Eye candy.. yes. Kewl.. definately.

I am not trying to be critical but by claiming the idea will be ignored before anyone even comments makes it doubtful that you will have much luck convincing those who could implement such a change.
Is this some sort of reverse psychology? [&:]

Personally, I can take or leave this option. The VP's are all I need photos, sounds, and fanfare do nothing for me, IMO.

Actually I rather like this idea. "Kewl", as Mr Lava might say. [:D]

Well...how can we ignore it, if people keep bumping it to the top?[:D]

LOL. Why stop with bmps? Take it that giant step further playing 2 Weeks in Normandy for example. You could divvy up 'The Longest Day' into Allied and German perspectives and play as associated movie clips- Turn 1 would show the beach scenes for Allies and the pillbox scenes for the Germans. Turn 2 could show portions of the movie as it relates to getting off the beaches from the perspectives of both sides.

You could do something similar for Market Garden 44, using 'A Bridge Too Far'. Stalingrad scenarios could have some interesting associated movies. Also scenarios in the Pacific- 'The Thin Red Line' springs to mind.[:D]

There we go. A concept that a friend of mine was fond of was having scenario-specific music. "Der Panzerlied" for the opening phase of the Ardennes Offensive, for example.

Oh, that's a beaut. Just think of the possibilities- my favourite- the Afrika Korps moving out to the strains of 'Lili Marleen'. There's even an original recording sung by members of the 6th Panzergrenadier Division: http://ingeb.org/garb/lmarleen.html

Nemo69 -> RE: Another idea to be ignored.... (7/19/2006 12:16:53 AM)

Actually, you can have scenario-specific sounds/music with TOAW III.

Do you put the sound files in the graphic folders?

Thanks Marc. Then I'll probably hook up Lili Marleen to the 2WIN tournament. After all it was just as popular with the Allies.

I'll have to check for music. I don't remember if they're scenario specific or not. I think they are. You need to either create a folder under the altgraphics directory with the scenario name, of r you may have to create a folder with the year under the altgraphics folder and and put it in there.

Post if you have problems getting it to work.

Williamb -> RE: Another idea to be ignored.... (7/19/2006 1:42:16 AM)

I think the idea is good just not accessable in the current game engine

Should do a "what feature would you like in a new TOAW game ?"

Can start it on tuesdays.  [:'(]

Myself would like to next engine to upgrade air and navy in the game. Matrix did a great engine for War in the pacific but just imagine a editor with that type of game and TOAw" scope of warfare.

kylenapoleon -> RE: Another idea to be ignored.... (7/19/2006 3:08:01 AM)

It would be a great game if the air and naval aspects were added Not that TOAW 3 isn't a great game right now.

As for the .bmp files, I would like to see that as well as have Playboy bunnies come over and jump up and down as we celebrate my victory. Now that would be fun.[;)]

murx -> RE: Another idea to be ignored.... (7/19/2006 1:26:00 PM)

Actually I like the idea of having working hyperlinks in any/all  windows [:D]
(Just have the program launch the systems browser with the link, no in-build browser like Winamp tried)
This way players could immediately click the scenario designers page (or in the news section scenario designers can place links with more information on the events and such)
