puresimmer -> New Patch 1.24 with a surprise (7/23/2006 4:36:52 PM)

OK, v1.24 is ready and the best news is the 98/ME startup issue has been resolved. I also snuck in a pretty huge feature :)

http://www.psmultiplayer.150m.com/PureSim2007-SetupRelease-v124Patch.exe

Changes:

- Fix: Fixed problem introduced in v1.19 where PureSim would not properly start on Windows 98, Windows ME and some pre-SP2 versions of XP Phew! that was a killer. Thanks to VMWare for their awesome virtualization technology that let me build a clean Windows ME virtual machine installation from scratch so I could finally debug and fix the issue. It took 5 hours to finally find it, but I sure feel better.

- New: New option when using real players to bring in players before their real life major league debut. This can be a cool option if you want to play with real players and more than 35-man rosters. Players are brought in a few years in advance based on their age at the point the debuted in the majors. Their ratings will be adjusted accordingly. This is optional (default=off) via the "[x] Import Players Prior to their Major League Debut" option on the initial "Association Customization Options" dialog that appears at initial association creation time.

Thank you Shaun!!!!
I now have all my imaginary friends back!!!
And I take back all the things I've been muttering about you for the last 5 days.
You do more work in 2 off days than I do in a month.
Take the rest of the week off.

henry296 -> RE: New Patch 1.24 with a surprise (7/23/2006 5:00:38 PM)

Outstanding.

I assume that the new option is only available for new careers.

akw4572 -> RE: New Patch 1.24 with a surprise (7/23/2006 5:42:13 PM)

That is awesome.........thanks for more customizability!

puresimmer -> RE: New Patch 1.24 with a surprise (7/23/2006 6:27:47 PM)

Yea, I'm so glad to get that 98/ME error behind me!

Beach23BoyP -> RE: New Patch 1.24 with a surprise (7/23/2006 6:38:55 PM)

That was a great idea! Thanks!

gibby290 -> RE: New Patch 1.24 with a surprise (7/23/2006 7:12:33 PM)

By the way, in patch 1.22 you seemed to fix the error of 'thinking' AI in my historical sims...GREAT WORK!!!

Amaroq -> RE: New Patch 1.24 with a surprise (7/23/2006 8:00:56 PM)

ITS CHRISTMAS IN JULY!!!!!!!!

Wow, thank you, Shaun!!! That's ... wow ... that makes me very very happy!

My convalescence has taken new life! [;)]

Now if only I had air conditioning...

33sherman -> RE: New Patch 1.24 with a surprise (7/23/2006 8:04:34 PM)

Man, that was fast...I can't wait to try this out but I'm enjoying my 'fictional' historical career. Reports please from anyone who tries out the new real player early import system.

PadresFan104 -> RE: New Patch 1.24 with a surprise (7/23/2006 8:38:35 PM)

Click on the above link and save to your HD (somewhere -- I always have a directory called My Downloads with a PureSim sub-directory inside of it).

1) Double click on the saved update patch file.
2) Click run.
3) Agree to the terms and fill-in S/N.
4) Make sure the update patch is pointing toward your installed PS2007 directory.
5) Click "next" two or three times (I can't remember exactly). It will start the update.

KG Erwin -> RE: New Patch 1.24 with a surprise (7/23/2006 10:39:34 PM)

Wow! Love it. To start with ALL real players is just what I wanted.  Also, to have a truly "national game" beginning in 1946, with 27-yr old Jackie Robinson on the Brooklyn roster, is so cool.

Thanks, Shaun. [&o]

PS With the accelerated entry of guys like Richie Ashburn, Nellie Fox, Robinson et al, the depth of talent at the start of the Golden Age is truly astounding.

Deltadog -> RE: New Patch 1.24 with a surprise (7/24/2006 12:32:59 AM)

I downloaded the 124 patch and each time I start the game I get the message shown below: I am using the deadball era.xml file, so I guess that it is going to have to be changed also. Anyone else see this?

TF-M -> RE: New Patch 1.24 with a surprise (7/24/2006 12:33:10 AM)

Actually I am having problems with this link as well. I have downloaded all others with no problem. Instead of downloading it the file the normal way I get a very quick progress meter which finishes in about 2 seconds...way to short for a 30 MB file

Instead of the usual Icon I get with the patches the icon is a blank box.
I run and it pops up a dos type box and hangs.

Not sure what is up but I can't seem to DL this either.

SittingDuck -> RE: New Patch 1.24 with a surprise (7/24/2006 12:52:00 AM)

Same. The link isn't downloading anything for me.

But how impressive to jump from v1.22 (last time I looked) to v1.24!

And great work on tracking down the issue, Shaun. Great effort.

ffp7175 -> RE: New Patch 1.24 with a surprise (7/24/2006 1:14:51 AM)

the link isnt working for me either

Yes, you must upgrade to a new "deadball era.xml" file. Every now and then Shaun changes the master XML file, therefore, it must be upgraded.

Rainbow7 -> RE: New Patch 1.24 with a surprise (7/24/2006 1:33:34 AM)

How exactly is the early import feature used?  I created a PureSim Classic association.  And I just tried to import a real player.  After typing out his last name, I switched to the first name field, and the game consistantly crashes on me (runtime error 94, invalid use of null).

Any idea what has changed. I have started reading both files, trying to determine what needs to be changed, but, as you know is a lot to read, and I have yet to see any note that specifies what might have changed?

Silverbullet -> RE: New Patch 1.24 with a surprise (7/24/2006 4:05:21 AM)

I am unable to download this file.
I continually get

"HTTP Server error 503"
"No available server to handle this request"

gipat -> RE: New Patch 1.24 with a surprise (7/24/2006 4:17:32 AM)

Also unable to download file. Get HTTP Server error 503.

scott32671 -> RE: New Patch 1.24 with a surprise (7/24/2006 4:30:09 AM)

SAME WITH ME...UNABLE TO DOWNLOAD!?!

puresimmer -> RE: New Patch 1.24 with a surprise (7/24/2006 5:14:58 AM)

Its just because the load is too much. Wait a bit and you wil be fine.

Steely Glint -> RE: New Patch 1.24 with a surprise (7/24/2006 5:29:00 AM)

Why not make it available at some place like Rapidshare?

SittingDuck -> RE: New Patch 1.24 with a surprise (7/24/2006 5:33:52 AM)

Whew - what a terrible server.  I mean, how many people are actually going after this?

Oh dear god, don't try to do it by hand! Comparing two versions of the same file is exactly the sort of task computers are good at, what you want is called a "diff tool" - there should be plenty of good ones. I use the 'diff' included in Cygwin myself, but if you don't want a full suite of Linux tools, you can find a simple graphical one at The Code Project - Free Tools.

henry296 -> RE: New Patch 1.24 with a surprise (7/24/2006 5:52:46 AM)

I get an illegal operation when I try to install the patch.  If I try to save it to my desktop it is a very small file.

VanScoy -> RE: New Patch 1.24 with a surprise (7/24/2006 5:56:04 AM)

same with me, tiny file, illegal operation,,,
