Again, please use this thread to post in to keep the AAR less cluttered. Thanks.

I really like most of the changes to the game. Random events, random reactions by neutrals, random spy results will make each game different and thus pose new challenges and choices for the grand strategist. Thus, each game will have a different flavor to it. Hopefully the random events themselves won't have too strong a vote in the outcome of the war.

One thing I saw that I didn't really like was the Western Allies rounding up a chinese spy ring.

Interesting game so far! It seems the Japanese AI has been a bit passive in China and now with the WA at war. I like that the AI is a bit conservative as this is preferable to recklessness. But there was little reason not to follow up in China once Japan went for the non-coastal areas. And if I'm reading correctly the Axis was aware the US was at war before the US had a chance to redeploy. The Japanese should have made the most of this. Hopefully it will be addressed before the game is released.

And thats why we beta test [:(]

just posting the next turn and I have to chuckle cause Japan just surprised me by taking Chungking.

I'm also surprised at the Japanese AI as I just checked and they have teched up ASW on both bombers and DD's to 3 ! nullifying my 3/3 subs at this point.

Some of the AI in the current build is not implemented as it will be in the final version. In particular, Japan will be different and will not be as predictable.

a follow up in late 43 for the Japanese AI, it looks like with everything invested in ASW and infantry ( almost 30 now) the AI chose not to or couldn't really pressure the SRI with its forces.

Its stung me a few times but my Wallies are now advancing on the Home Islands at a territory or two a turn and shouldn't have a problem taking them if you dont count all that inf a problem !

I can see this tactic being used by humans as China can be consumed perhaps a little better, and with only a few sea zones to protect, India perhaps or a couple of the SRI and the Japanese can put themselves in the mid to high 20's in production before the US can really do anything about it. Played well that'll give you a huge army to overcome with the new amphib rules so it could feasible.

I just played a game of AWD as the Allies against the AI. I set the AI on Hard (+2 combat bonus and +50 supply) using the Axis Blitz scenario (extra population and resources for the Axis).

I actually lost!

Sure, I made quite a few major mistakes and could have won - but the fact is that I lost. So, the AI is not too terrible if you give it a proper bonus depending on just how experienced a player you are yourself.

no doubt ! up until just the last few turns I was getting crushed on the Russian front and with the axis reaching a highwater mark of 67 i can see how you'd have to focus on stopping their AV with another couple combat points! did they AV Jan ?

JanSorensen -> RE: AWD teaser - Allied Edition comment/question thread (7/25/2006 9:43:47 PM)

The Axis high water mark in my game was 69.

Russia was pushed back to the Urals + Leningrad but China never lost Chungking and the English never lost any factories nor Cairo.

Japan fell in mid 1945 - but at that point German still controlled all of Europe all the way to Moscow.

Then the WA bombing campaign picked up speed and at the end the Germans had not a single factory left. The WA even managed to land in Berlin but never took W. Germany and the German counterattack retook Berlin.

So, in the end the Allied production was 100 while the German was 1 - but considerable German forces still controlled Germany and France while the Russians had liberated most of Eastern Europe mostly because the Germans withdrew.

So, its probably very possible to beat the AI at this setting - but it does put up a decent fight.

The AI not attacking the SRA in the AAR game is actually a bug that Gary fixed a few days ago. Under some conditions when the US entered the war before Japan thought it would, it was forgetting to go for the SRA. I think your AAR game would be even more challenging if you had the latest AI code which should go out today.

Thanks for the great AAR's.  I have gone from "not interested at all" to "can't wait"!  Great write-ups, keep them coming!
