What ever rest prefer.

Nukester -> RE: Any interest in a practice run small Multiplayer league? (8/12/2006 7:10:18 AM)

Im easy. Ill do any era

SittingDuck -> RE: Any interest in a practice run small Multiplayer league? (8/12/2006 2:32:56 PM)

Well, how many guys do we want to get into this before we start?  I have no probs letting the AI run a few teams.  In fact, from the standpoint of learning about how the system functions, it might be preferable for awhile.

Deltadog -> RE: Any interest in a practice run small Multiplayer league? (8/12/2006 8:31:03 PM)

????

SittingDuck -> RE: Any interest in a practice run small Multiplayer league? (8/12/2006 8:45:33 PM)

Preferable in that you understand how the AI will function in that type of situation.  I don't see 24 guys lining up here to play.  When testing something out, you always want to see how the AI functions (interacts), especially when you have multiple humans playing.

SittingDuck -> RE: Any interest in a practice run small Multiplayer league? (8/12/2006 8:46:09 PM)

OK, not preferable.  Maybe 'give me an opportunity to analyze' is better?  [:D]

akcranker -> RE: Any interest in a practice run small Multiplayer league? (8/12/2006 9:58:48 PM)

I thought we had a good 8 people or so already volunteer to do this league?

SittingDuck -> RE: Any interest in a practice run small Multiplayer league? (8/12/2006 11:05:31 PM)

I guess.  I haven't gone back through to get each name.  Was hoping people would repost if they are still interested and I'd update the first post.

But the thing is we need a good bit, mainly because what league except some pre-1900 league runs 8 teams?

Of course, we could also do sandlot, and that might be preferable.  We could actually each choose a team from history and run that!

SittingDuck -> RE: Any interest in a practice run small Multiplayer league? (8/18/2006 12:50:44 AM)

OK, I've been thinking of doing the following:

Using Sandbox mode, create a small league 5-6 teams in each league of the all-time greatest teams of the post-deadball era.  Post-deadball mainly because of the xml matchup issues.

Each owner can choose a team.  I find this a better idea than picking a chronological year and going forwards.  And I think it would be a helluva lot more interesting.  Can you imagine trading Ted Williams (no, you can't, but anyways...) for a killer package from the Big Red Machine?

WOW.......  [&o]  Thanks for Shaun for giving us this ability.

OK, so what does everyone think?  You can pick your own team out of history.  I am not going to pick them for you.

However......  I get the Orioles.  And no repeat teams, like two Yankee teams - that's lame.

Nukester -> RE: Any interest in a practice run small Multiplayer league? (8/18/2006 2:33:15 AM)

Why dont we just say NO Yankees to make it fair for the other teams [;)]

If possible, Ill take the 1937 Yankees. Yanks are my favorite, but if someone else absolutely has to have the Yanks, Ill change. Theres plenty of teams to choose from

tbear2b -> RE: Any interest in a practice run small Multiplayer league? (8/18/2006 3:01:05 AM)

Sitting Duck,

Is there any more room in the league, or are you full for the moment? I'd be able to squeeze in more time for PureSim if I knew it was for an MP league. Just let me know. If there is room, I'll give you a quick heads up on my team info.

Thanks!

SittingDuck -> RE: Any interest in a practice run small Multiplayer league? (8/18/2006 3:57:48 AM)

Nukester, that's fine.  I'll put you down for 1937 Yankees.

tbear2b - yeah there is still room.  I'm thinking two leagues of 4 teams each, unless there is some big rush of owners.

Guys who have previously expressed interest:

List in order what teams you'd like to own
(post deadball era).

I figure you can also try to talk Nukester out of the '37 Yankees.   Actually, probably having a later era Yankees team like '61 wouldn't be a problem.  Just like to get a time gap for them.

Yeah, we'll just see how your Yankees do against my '70 Orioles.  [8D]

Nukester -> RE: Any interest in a practice run small Multiplayer league? (8/18/2006 4:00:23 AM)

Should be interesting as long as Mr. Coffee doesnt go down in the first week [:)]

SittingDuck -> RE: Any interest in a practice run small Multiplayer league? (8/18/2006 4:01:26 AM)

I am going to start a new thread since this concept has changed.  Hold on to your hats, mates.

jearly -> RE: Any interest in a practice run small Multiplayer league? (8/18/2006 4:17:04 AM)

Don't know if your still signing up managers, but if so I'll give it a shot. This will be my second attempt at an online league the first is one I'm in in the OOTP realm, and frankly It isn't that much fun. I much prefer PS so am hoping this can be a fun experience.
I would be interested in a Boston, Colorado, or Az franchise.

SittingDuck -> RE: Any interest in a practice run small Multiplayer league? (8/18/2006 4:19:23 AM)

jearly, check what we're doing - this is an all-time greatest teams league, so you'd need to pick a franchise and particular year

Woodruff -> RE: Any interest in a practice run small Multiplayer league? (8/18/2006 8:06:35 AM)

Ok, I'll bite the bullet. Sign me up for a KC Royals team (I believe they're free...correct me if I'm wrong)...one of their super-speed teams (was that around 1981 or so?

I'm curious as to what you're planning to use for the size of the league. Have you decided whether to have the AI run a few teams?

I ask only because I find much more enjoyment out of a league the more teams are in it (just because it makes it that much more difficult).

Ok...I've looked up some stats. I'd like to go with 1978 Royals. I thought about 1980, with Willie Wilson being a terror on the basepaths...but there are "more" guys with good stolen base numbers on the '78 team, rather than everything compounding around Willie's 79 of them or whatever it was.

SittingDuck -> RE: Any interest in a practice run small Multiplayer league? (8/19/2006 12:46:10 AM)

Paul - when you ported this thread over, it took a thread name that I tried to force into via editting (but didn't work back in the old forum).  Subsequently, I started a new thead about the 'Greatest All-Time Teams'.

Anyhow, there are two very similar threads now, so could you change this one back to the original, which was something about 'Starting a PS Multiplayer League' or thereabouts.  I think that would help people find the right thread.

Nomowhale -> RE: Any interest in a practice run small Multiplayer league? (8/21/2006 8:10:35 PM)

I am about to purchase Puresim. I have been playing the demo for a while. In a multiplayer league do you manage against the other teams or Quick Sim through the games. Sorry if that is a stupid question. I am interested in joining the league. I would like go manage a Yankee team, hopefully not in the 1965-74 era. Let me know. Thanks.

Larry

Nukester -> RE: Any interest in a practice run small Multiplayer league? (8/21/2006 8:56:40 PM)

There is no head to head. Its all about setting lineups and rosters, then simming a stretch of time.

Actually, Im not sure how an offline multiplay league works. Can you play out games H2H that way (Im thinking not, but Im not entirely sure)

akcranker -> RE: Any interest in a practice run small Multiplayer league? (8/21/2006 9:01:24 PM)

There is no head to head over the internet type multiplayer.  The current setup is each GM makes any roster changes they want and they upload them to the Commish and he sims a selected amount of games and then he makes the file available for each GM to download so they can view the results of the games and make any new roster changes, lineup changes, placing injured players on DL, trades etc.

I would still recommend that you buy Puresim because it has an excellent single player game and right now we are testing out the multiplayer features to find any bugs and suggest any changes we would like made.  If you would like to join the league or read up on how we are doing you can check it out all in this thread http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=1228696&mpage=1&key=

SittingDuck -> RE: Any interest in a practice run small Multiplayer league? (8/21/2006 11:00:36 PM)

This is assuming we get the help needed to overcome our technical glitch.

And this glitch bothers me, because it could happen to any league set up in the Sandbox mode.  Or perhaps one set up with a team that has import issues (by PSBB standards).

I think this needs to be addressed, not just for our league (which would be nice), but for the security of forming any type of league via the Lahman DB.  Now I am going to try forming a personal 1941 MLB league and see if there are any problems.
