Vacation Campaign!

Soviet Union's Col "Sorry" Sorokin
3/12/1944, Assault on German positions near Tarnopol.
time: 1200 hours Vis: 5 Weather: rain

At exactly noon today, our advance was presaged by a massive bombardment of 152mm shells. While we could not see in the heavy rain, I am confident that the shells provided some facists with their final resting places... right in hell. After approx. 15 mins of advancing, Company B finally made contact with the enemy. Sgt. Blinov's squad was all but decimated when it encountered what appeared to be a German platoon guarding a dirt road passing over a small ridge. The T34s were brought up, and the Germans were driven back under heavy fire. Sgt. Lucashontov's squad has also taken light casualties in this brief skirmish. Company C also made contact with a german force, and once more the T34s brought them down. However, there were only mild casualties suffered in this engagement.

Despite these minor skirmishes, our trooped continued to advance at a steady rate, and out artillery continues to pound the Germand at a steady rate.

Our comrades continue to advance at a brisk pace, despite ever increasing fire from forward German positions. Thus far, Company B has recieved the heaviest fire, with both B/III and B/I having a squad nearly wiped out already. They have also confirmed at least a platoon of enemy infantry destroyed, and an anti-aircraft MG which opened fired on B/III. It had been our comrades in the T34s which are responding to enemy fire with the greatest effectiveness.

Company C has yet to recieve enemy contact, and is closest to the no man's land left by our artillery bombardment. They are barely 200m away from the first craters now. C/III, which is charged with taking a small hill on the far southern end of our line to secure our flank, is within 150m of their first objective. If that hill is taken without the company recieving fire, which is unlikely, I will order them to turn upon the enemy flank.

Against the backdrop of our artillery shells falling, it is truly suprising the Germans are showing any signs of resistance at all. nonetheless, our comrades have yet to encounter any of the feared Panzers,  and they have managed to advance fast enough to outpace enemy artillery.

Well this campaign is doomed. I found the Band of Brothers boxed set for $50, and bought it. That kills my gaming for the week, as well as my Credit Card for the year. :P I say it's worth it though.

Our continued advance has met with a ever increasing amount of resistance from the facists. Numerous isolated entrenchments have been located and destroyed.

Company A has met with a solid line of German troops, consisting of at least a platoon, if not more. They were driven from their holes, however it was done at a high price. The company has taken heavy casualties.

Company B recieved heavy fire, though not as bad as A, and has had one T34 immobilized by a daring facisit. 1st LT Morozow managed to drive the facist force back off a ridge, despite the damage done to his T34. This is the first tank to be damaged in this engagement.

Company C has finally made contact with the enemy, save for C/III. III continues their full speed advance, in hopes that the small hill will provide a good location for firing into the flank of the facists.

The speed of our advance has come at a price. We have over ran our artillery. Companies A and B have recieved heavy shelling from our own 152mm guns.

Despite the blunders of our incompetent artillery gun crews, the advance continued at a reduced pace. More of the slower speed was due to the heavy smoke now present at our line; it has caused some casualties among the infantry, as well as the loss of one T34/85 and it's crew. Platoon C/III has finally come under fire, and it is due to that, among other isues, that leads me to believe that we have hit the main German line. Still we have yet to encounter the feared Panzers, and put to test the 85mm guns on our T34s. They have proven to do a fine job on the German infantry, however.

The Germans are being beaten back with considerable losses; only where our own line has a gap is there relative safety for the facists. That will not last long, assuming out 152mms actually hit in their intended areas. I have decided to execute one man chosen at random from every gun crew for their mistakes.

At least an entire company was wiped out in the last five minuits according to out company commanders. While this may be exaggeration, I feel confident in the ability of my men and tanks to drive the facists back to their fatherland. I only wish I could feel as confident in the abilities of my artillery commanders and their crews.
