RealChuckB -> Rookie question on unit values (7/31/2006 9:16:01 AM)

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to get into TOAW, but I have already several questions after reading most of the manual and starting the first tutorial (Korea) and reading the accompanying documentation (I'm using the Advanced Game Rules):

I'm looking at the Communist NKPA 549th Marines at 22,35.

1. The AP value of this unit is 7 and the AT value is 2. But what are the capabilities shown in the unit report? While the defend value of the capabilities (10) is the same as on the unit icon, the attack value of the capabilities is 10. How is the attach value of the capabilities calculated? (The manual is not explaining this).

2. The manual talks about "Unit moral". Is this value shown somewhere in the unit report? I can't find it.

3. The manual also mentions "Unit Quality" - again, I can't find this - are the Unit Moral and Unit Quality only displayed in the editor?

4. I'll look into supply a bit later, but I have already one question: If I set the current supply view option to "trace", supply symbols with values are shown on the map. I didn't find an explanation in the manual what these values represent - can someone explain?

Thanks a lot in advance for any feedback, I'm really trying to get into the game and looking forward to it!

Chuck

Hi,

in answer to 4: Have a look http://www.wargamer.com/toaw/scenplay/strategy.htm ,there is a great section on how supply is calculated.

hmm, I've also found morale and quality in the manual (8.2.4, 8.2.5):

moral: weigthed average of proficiency, supply level and readiness, but cannot drop below 10 %
quality: weigthed average of proficiency and readiness, always between 10 - 100% and gives the chance that a unit will pass the quality check.

Hi,

Thanks a lot for the link - this looks very interesting. Will print it out and get into it.

Yes, I found "Unit Moral" and "Unit Quality" in the manual. My question was, if these values are shown anywhere in the game, or if I do have to calculate it on my own? If so, is it important enough for my gameplay to go through the hassle of calculation? [;)]

Thanks!

Chuck

Though they are important characteristics of your units, you neither need to go through the hassle of calculation, nor search for these numbers to be displayed anywhere. Just having a "gut feel" for them will be good enough.

JAMiAM,

Thanks for your reply. Do you also happen to know the answer to my first question about the attack value of the capabilities? While for most unit this value is exactly the attack value displayed on the icon (a sum of the AP and AT values, apparently), it is different for some units, why?

Thanks,

Chuck
