jono -> How were the trading deadlines determined in the 1940's? (8/1/2006 8:44:58 AM)

I'm playing a fictional 1948 league and 2 teams made a trade August 1. I went to the association menu on August 2 1948 and it read only 5 days left to the trading deadline. How did they determine the deadline back then? Was it a certain number of days before the end of the season? A certain number of days after the start of the season? Magic? Thanks for any answers, I guess I should have done some research before starting the league.

That's twice recently we've had links posted to that site - I'd say anybody interested in running a realistic historicaly replay association might want to browse the entire site, there. I found great reading, plenty of stuff I had never thought about before!

The article didn't help too much. It said that there was no trading deadline until 1921 when they made it Aug 1. Then it was changed to 15 June in 1922 where it remained for decades. The article didn't mention the trading deadline again.
After googling 15 June trading deadline I found that it changed to 31 July in 1986.

The above article implies that a trade deadline is no deadline at all?

"
Trade Deadlines and Other Rules

Trades are not forbidden after trading deadlines. Rather, all players involved must first clear waivers in order to be traded. "

Could this be why puresim cpu teams keep trading after the probably trade deadline?

No.  Waivers isn't built into the program.

This is the first time I've seen a trade made after 31 July and in my association it was not made after the trading deadline as for some strange reason my association's trading deadline is not till 7 Aug.

Where do you see the trade deadline?

With about a week to go the "Home" screen tells you how many days until the deadline.
