Do spot starters/middle relievers, when pitching from the bullpen, recover at the reliever rate or starter rate?
I ask this because I am under the impression that pure starters, when put in the bullpen, recover at the starter rate. Which would be problematic, especially since so many are put in the #1 reliever position, thereby getting the major portion of IPs.
Ideally I'd like to know if pitchers recover either:
1) by their pitcher type (starter/spot starter/reliever)
-or-
2) from the situation in which they pitched (starter in the bullpen or reliever starting a game)
