There was I, enjoying chasing down some cripples from a Tokyo Express run when this happened:

Not one of my naval search assets picked it up til too late [:(]- 3x PBY squadrons at range 9 (50%) and 8x carrier SBD squadrons (10%). The surface combat took place in the day pulse after PM air phase. NO strike was launched from CVs [:@]
