The "Occupation and Conquest" section heading should be numbered 5.7, not 5.9. Section 5.9 is the "Liberation" section (and is numbered correctly).

Don't get me started on that!

As a professional involved with publications it just makes my skin crawl to read through the original and the updated manuals. I'd have my balls handed to me if I turned in something like that to my customers.

I've been tempted to rewrite the COG manual, expanding on economics and other fuzzy concepts, but not sure if Matrix or WCS would mind! I would also like to involve the forum community since some of these guys understand the game better than I do.

Does anyone have interest in this?

Out of curiosity, what changes would you most like to see?  What are your biggest issues with the manuals as currently written?

First, as you mentioned, section heading problems. (I have not looked at the updated one yet, just the original)
Second, many game concepts are poorly explained especially the economics portion. Understanding how the sliders and production values interact are critical for taking your game to the next level. Trying to figure out how all the numbers add up can be complicated as well.
Third, just lots of typos and grammar/puntuation issues.

Sure, I can see all that.  In our defense, I have only found the one typo in the section headings so far, and as for the others, they are much cleaned-up in the revised manual (and they can often be found in even the most professional manuals).  We were sensitive to the confusion about some economic concepts, and have provided what we think are excruciatingly detailed blow-by-blow explanations of, for example, economic production--though admittedly the goal was mostly completeness, rather than brevity.  (In fact this should not strictly speaking be considered a second edition of the manual, even though we call it that--for one thing, it is only the text, without images, and the image tags have been left in for an actual revision in the future sometime.  We would like to gauge the reaction to it if possible.)

Part of what was left out of the first manual was an adequate description of the reports, which can be crucial for understanding economic production and costs.

Well, I guess I had better read the update then! Glad to hear about the improvements. Great game.
