Hi,

I've just started playing FPG again patched to ver.1.1.1 but have found a problem with the SOP. My units take no notice of it! I did a search in the forum and no one else seems to have reported a problem, so its probably just me doing something wrong.
If you have a look at the screen dump below you can see the SOP I set for the firing recon unit, and looking at the grid its obvious the distance between the two units is well over 500m.
The senario is the Soviet Tank Rush (v1.1).

Hi Gudgey,

I have never noticed that in my games. I will keep an eye out. Perhaps you might try re-installing.

I have to think back a bit, I'm eyeballs deep in the next game, but I believe there is a small chance based on a number of items that a unit will "get trigger happy" and shoot even though the order says 500m. I'll see if I can take a look at the code tonight and verify that bit of trivia. If you have a save game at that point we could look at that too.

Thanks, guys I will re-install the program and try again. Capn D' I don't know about the units "getting trigger happy" as it wasn't just the recon units, all the Challengers started shooting early too!
You'd expect better discipline from the British army [;)]

You know what, something is amiss with the SOP alright. Was working ok I believe in 1.10. I'll have to put FPC:ME on hold tonight and track this glitch down and I guess clean up a few other minor issue so we can update the code. Gud Kach! [;)]

Should be able to look into this issue as the weekend goes. Rob popped up last night and again this morning so I diverted back to FPC issue. It may also be a British only issue too. I need to check the other 3 to see if they are doing it too.

Hey Capn,

Any luck fixing this? I don't mean to be a pain as I am sure your a busy man, but as I am on leave this week, and have some time to spare, I want to get cracking again.
Is it just a Brit problem or do the other sides need tweaking as well? If it is, I will have a go with the Germans or Amercians until the fix arrives.

It looks like a global problem. Mixed blessing. A fix will cure all but finding it could be more of an issue. I ended up spending my free time on the new game this weekend since Rob ended up having some time. I'll try to track this down this week.

UPDATE: I have located part of the issue and I'm testing ways to resolve it. There is another issue related to SOP and movement that I'm checking on too. I'll keep folks posted.

Okay, I think I have cornered both the SOP fire and movement glitches. I've wrapped a bit of new code around them to make stable units less prone to firing beyond their SOP range and also more prone to move if the units range to move is greater then its range to fire. It appears to be working well. I tested it with Soviet Tank Rush and all of my scout units fell back without shooting into my main forces. A first! You will need to pay closer attension to unit SOP's with this so your forces don't up and run when you think they should fight. I'm also tweaking a few other minor issues raised by other folks and should be posting a build for testing this weekend to our Beta team.

Hit a few minor snags over the weekend so the update is still in-house at the moment. The build for the beta testers should go up later today or tomorrow then move on from there. More info as I know it later.

The SOP glitch is fixed for both movement and fire. Do to other influences (work, school functions, ICQ communications trouble and more work) pretty much nothing moved at all during the week. We also picked up one other bug in PBEM that we are trying to sort out and the week's activities have not helped there either. I will work to keep you all posted on how things are progressing. Sorry for the delays.

We are still trying to get enough free time to get one more issue worked on with the 1.12 build so we can cut it loose to our beta team for a quick test drive. Both Rob and I have had ugly weeks for the past 3-4 weeks and free time has not been what we would like. That is real life though. Jobs and families first. I will see if I can get with Rob and try to get this last issue (a PBEM item) resolved. We work via ICQ and that has been 50-50 at best for the last 4 week as well adding to the headaches.

Sorry it's not better news...

Build 1.12 went to the testers today. I hope for a fast turnaround from them givin the isolated nature of the bug fix. More when I know it. [:)]

We hit two bugs in the PBEM area. Both Rob and I have been swamped with real life work and also working the next game. I'll talk with Rob again tomorrow and see if we can divert a bit of time on 1.12 to resolve those 2 minor issues.

I just purchased FG last week and it is version 1.1.1. The last patch I see was May-23-2006. Is a patch 1.12 still in the works?

I also have an occasional problem of units ignoring the SOP settings and an opposing unit will move right on top of my tanks, my units ignoring it! My units have plenty of ammo too. Seems to be the opposite of the SOP problem that Gudgey has I believe.
