djeezman -> noobee (2) oil vs fuel (8/10/2006 12:34:21 PM)

I am at my workplace so i d0n't have the manual here.
But I'd better ask now, coz it is nagging me ;

What is it with oil in the game ?

Fuel in harbours is there for TF to resupply (endurance for the next mission goes up). And you see the stock of fuel reduced.

But what do I do with oil ?
I am in the process of evacuating a port and I have a ship that can take up fuel or oil.
If I choose to take in oil..where do I see how much oil is stored in the port to begin with ? And will the tanker take in fuel if it has more cpacity than the oil in port ?

Then, what to do with it ? AO can only transport it to another port..or also supply to a TF at sea ?
I think it is this other type of ship (enables resupply TF at sea kind of thing..), but to resupply a TF at sea with this ship, why should it be with oil and not with fuel (and supplies for ammo etc.) ?

Thanks [:'(]

PS a side question:
Did anyone finish a grand campaign with a couple of hours gameplay per day (work, family) only, how much weeks/months did that take ?

1. you can see how much is stored on base screen (see picture below)

2.tanker will always load what you order - if you order fuel she will take fuel, same goes for the oil. It will load as much she can (TK capacity, or how much oil/fuel are in the
base)

3. right. AOs are for repelnishment TFs on the open sea - it provides fuel to ships. Do not load oil and try to resupply ship:)

4. the only, but extremely important role of the oil is that runs your heavy industry. You need to transport oil to your HI centers (Taiwan, Japan and some to China). HI produces HI points for production (airframes, ac etc) and also fuel + supply.

hope this helps

As I believe that djeezman is playing as allies, the oil should go to your manufacturing centers (Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Perth - and to a lesser extent Auckland). If you can sneak any into Singapore before the IJNAF shuts down all shipping activity in the area, then you can help that base hang on a bit longer (or just give the Japanese a better equppied base when it falls!).

The US manufacturing centers (Seattle, SF, LA, SD) receive all the oil they need (plus some) from continental US sources, so no need to ship any oil there. Once in awhile you will want to send some from the US to Australia.

if he plays Allies, i would advise him differently: form your repelnishment fleet with oil and send them to reful your fleet[:D][:D][:D]

If you are evacuating, my advice would be to load your TK with oil... The main goald being not to use it in Australia, but to deny it to Japan!
