Yava -> CV's strike problem (8/10/2006 9:03:35 PM)

Hi,

I had a mall problem last night. While starting scenario 15 on the allied side, I decided to send the two CV's near PH to back up my humble forces onfighting against invaders on Wake. Everything was great till they arrived 2 hexes south west of the target. They had the Patrol/Do not retire mode. Japs had some transports unloading troops and I just wanted to hmm sink them[:D] but oh well no... why? I don't know.[&:] The carriers were just standing there. Lady Lex and Enterprise just were there and no planes attacked the bloody transports, with all planes in range of the target and commands given they did nothing to prevent the Japs unload on the island[X(] Someone knows why? I have a small idea but don't think that's the problem. Since it was a TF I order the planes a Naval Attack mission, maybe this should be Port Attack?

Check and see what you had your squadrons set to. All search? How much CAP did you assign? This is a micromangers dream so you got to check everything!

Yava -> RE: CV's strike problem (8/10/2006 9:17:38 PM)

Everything was set to Naval Attack and the Search Level was 20%... well Fighters were set for escort offcourse ;)

Perhaps your TF commanders felt it was a good time to refuel and so spent the day refueling and didn't have the OP points left to fly AC?

Yava -> RE: CV's strike problem (8/10/2006 9:27:50 PM)

Nah OP points were ok , same with weather and big squids near the TF.[;)]

saj42 -> RE: CV's strike problem (8/10/2006 9:28:26 PM)

Naval attack for TFs
Port attack for disbanded ships

did your air groups have any destination set? - it should be 'commanders discression'
What range were they set to?

Nikademus -> RE: CV's strike problem (8/10/2006 9:28:28 PM)

sounds like you might have been rained out. The cloud symbol does not always display in hex your TF is sitting in. Try also increasing at least one bomber group to 30% or more on search. I have found that the default 10-20% naval search is a bare min requirement.

Maximum range but since they were just two hexes far form the target even the damn Devastator planes were in range... and the Jap TF was visible all the time...

@Nik
Maybe that's the point.

treespider -> RE: CV's strike problem (8/10/2006 9:34:08 PM)

I guess you could always opt to use the CV's guns and engage in a surface battle[;)]

My guess is that Nik has it right and there was bad weather over Wake.

Monter_Trismegistos -> RE: CV's strike problem (8/10/2006 9:48:00 PM)

Dec 7th Surprise On? No naval attacks by allied aircrafts?

Yava -> RE: CV's strike problem (8/10/2006 10:20:25 PM)

Your point is?
Surprise Off. And about which naval attacks you're talking about?

Nikademus -> RE: CV's strike problem (8/10/2006 10:23:10 PM)

Rroberson sent me a save a few months ago detailing the exact same setup. Turned out there was "rain" in the hex he was sitting in and it kept cancelling his attack missions but the combat animation phase gave no indication. Worse, he was being teased with msgs of "SBD spots AK so and so" in the target hex. Needless to say, he was peeved. [:D]

Yava -> RE: CV's strike problem (8/10/2006 10:34:02 PM)

Well this was kinda making me mad. Free ships, just like Christmas... and nothing to grab them[:D] sad that the clouds are not visible.
