SGT Swanson -> Jap opponent sought!! (8/20/2006 2:37:24 AM)

I have 3 games going now as Japs. So, I'm looking for a IJA/IJN Opponent (I'm Allies).

CHS 2c w/ Extended map and Nik mod

Scen. 157 (w/o Soviet Fleet)
Scen. 158 (w/ Soviet Fleet)

House Rules:

PDUs: ON
1st Turn Surprise: ON
Historical 1st Turn: Can be discussed
Auto Sub Ops: OFF
Reinforcements: Can be discussed (I normaly use "Historical" but will play with "Variable" for a change of pace)

No Disbanding of Air in USA or HI to boost Pilot Pools (Allied advantage)
No invasion of Russia to turn off Manchuria Garrison requiremnets
No more than 6 ships in a ASW TF
No Allied 4E bombers below 5000' on Naval attack (their too effective still, even with the Nik mod)
No spliting of LCUs in combat (same hex as enemy)
No partial unit moes to cut off retreat paths (game engine bug)

Spending PPs to move units to palces not historically done is fine.

On a planning level we can allow the Japs to plan the 1st turn as they see fit for a "Bar room brawl" type of game using the above house rules.

I can do 1 turn a day, plus more on the weekends (except this coming one, going away till Sunday night).

Looking for someone to play a good game while not taking advantage of game engine deficeincies. I don't consider unusual tactics to be gamey. Taking advantage of known issues with the engine IS considered as gamey.

Did you ever find a game?

SGT Swanson -> RE: Jap opponent sought!! (8/21/2006 2:57:45 AM)

Not yet Sam.  You interested?

SamCole -> RE: Jap opponent sought!! (8/21/2006 3:19:00 AM)

Interested yes, but need more info.

I have not played a PBEM game, but have been playing head to head and against the AI for over a year.
I have been reading on this forum for that time, I just finally wanted to ask something and answer something
so I finally signed up. This means I am a bit unsure what additional house rules I need to ask for.

one is with PDUs on, do we need some restrictions on how aircraft units can be upgraded? this is for both
sides.

first turn - I would like a completely free first turn for me as IJN/IJA but I will agree to only make landings
on the East coast of Malaya and possibly Batan Islands. No other trasport TFs will end closer than 4 hexes
from an Allied base( except for Guam ). KB will attack the PH port and I will do no port
attacks on Singapore or Manilla. In exchange you will only give orders to existing TFs and any type of
unit assigned to China. (edit) None of my amphip TFs will end the first turn further than 4 hexes from
one of my major bases. I am not interested in a 'spider web' first turn. ( end edit )

And I will just flat declare that I will not attack the USSR at any time. Nor will I move units from Kwantang or
China without paying PP costs.

I only change a handfull. For the Jap player (you have control over production) having PDUs ON is more benificial IMHO. No, you will not see hords of 4E bombers in our game. The Allies have a good selection of medium bombers as well.

Generally, as stated in my post, the house rules are a counter to what some perceive as "Gamey". I don't see the use of turn 1 planning as being gamey. Though I do say "If you think of it, then they did too."

SamCole -> RE: Jap opponent sought!! (8/21/2006 5:38:34 AM)

So, should I start that first turn plan? It will take me a few days or so to finish - I haven't done one using CHS before.

my email is SamColeUS(at)yahoo(dot)com

One other question - Would a possible second day of attacks on PH be acceptable? I can give a valid reasion.

And one more: what is meant by this in your house rules? No Disbanding of Air in USA or HI to boost Pilot Pools (Allied advantage) How do I replenish air units with trained pilots? I have used the Mogami method before - is that acceptable? Or is there some other method?
