Cantankerous -> Run Time Error and Crash (8/20/2006 7:37:45 AM)

I upgraded to patch 1.32 RC1 during mid-season and finished out the season. Off-season went fine with no issues, but I am having a recurring error during the Amateur Draft.

I chose a player, clicked on a salary (5-year term) and selected him as my player, then I get this error:

Cantankerous -> RE: Run Time Error and Crash (8/20/2006 7:43:02 AM)

---continued from previous post---

After getting the "Run-time error '9'" message, the game crashes.

Wondering what happened to the player that I drafted, I realized that he was not added to my team, but was now listed as an unsigned free agent.

I opened up his player card and went into the "Edit Bio" tab and attempted to force add him to my team.

When I did this and hit the "OK" button at the bottom, I got this error:

Upon hitting the "OK" button on the "Run-time error '9'" pop up (the screenshot on the previous post), this nonsensical error message appears:

Cantankerous -> RE: Run Time Error and Crash (8/20/2006 7:50:13 AM)

Sorry to turn this into 4 posts, but I wanted to show the different error messages that I'm getting, and you can only upload one attachment per post (or at least I don't know how to upload multiple images).

Anyway, what is going on here?  Just to make sure this wasn't a one-time deal, I re-started the game and once again started the Amateur Draft.  When I selected another player, I got the very same error messages.

Please help, as I obviously can't play the game until this issue is resolved.

Is anyone else having this problem?

puresimmer -> RE: Run Time Error and Crash (8/20/2006 5:07:11 PM)

I have not seen this problem reported before. Can you try creating a quick 4 team association and see if that creates ok, just to rule out any install issues.

Also, can you zip up the association that demonstrates the problem and send it to me?

You can use www.sendthisfile.com (its free) -- send it to shaun@puresim.com

P.S. I am moving this to the support forum.

Shaun

Cantankerous -> RE: Run Time Error and Crash (8/20/2006 11:15:06 PM)

Shaun,

Thanks for your attention to this issue. I have emailed you a zipped file of my association using sendthisfile.com.

I started a 4-team association like you asked, and there appeared to be no problems or issues setting it up (although I have not tried to play any games or draft any players on this new association).

One other bit of weirdness that I saw was when I was looking at the player card of one of my players who won the Rookie Pitcher of Year award, but look at the wording on his "Notable Achievements" tab for 2008 (the year he won the Rookie pitcher award).

Have you seen this before?

Regardless, thanks for your help. It is greatly appreciated!!

puresimmer -> RE: Run Time Error and Crash (8/22/2006 5:38:01 AM)

Hmmm. I can open up Brian Scott with no problems.

I'll have a look at Gamble. For now I think your assn is fine.

Cantankerous -> RE: Run Time Error and Crash (8/29/2006 4:47:34 AM)

Shaun,

Thanks for looking at things, and I do appreciate your attention, however I am still having the same problems with my association that I reported in the posts above.  You mentioned that you can open up Brian Scott's card with no problems, but opening up the player's card was never the problem.

The problem with my association is that I am unable to draft players in the amateur draft.  With each player that I draft, I get the "Run-time error 9, subscript out of range" error.  Then the game crashes.

When I restart the game, of course the draft starts back at Round 1 and all the teams choosing before me get all the players that I drafted (but were unable to actually add to my team because of the error) PLUS they have the players that they already drafted on their previous turn(s).

Please help, because the game is completely unplayable at this point and I don't want to lose this association.  (I've played more than 20 seasons and don't want to have to restart.)

Thanks.  And any help you can give would be GREATLY appreciated!

puresimmer -> RE: Run Time Error and Crash (8/29/2006 4:56:44 AM)

I was able to do the ammy draft with no problems as well. Have you tried using the latest patch?

Also, you may want to try reverting to a backup (puresim automatically makes them in your PSA folder.

Simply save a copy of your current .psa and .psx files somewhere safe, and then delete them from the PSA folder, then find the newest .psa.backup and .psx.backup files and rename them to end in .psa and .psx respectively.

Cantankerous -> RE: Run Time Error and Crash (8/29/2006 6:32:30 AM)

Shaun,

I followed your advice and I updated the game to the latest patch (1.34) and reverted to the last backups of the association (saving the original .psa and .psx files in another folder).

I restart the game and went through another off-season finally getting to the amateur draft.  I made my selection of a player and immediately got the [all too familiar] "Run-time error 9, subscript out of range" error.  The game crashed.

This is very frustrating. [:(]

puresimmer -> RE: Run Time Error and Crash (8/29/2006 1:52:26 PM)

OK, go through it again (reverting to the backup) and then zip up those 2 files again and send them to me (use www.sendthisfile.com and send to shaun@puresim.com). Next, tell me exactly which player to pick, and what deal level to sign him to.

BTW, are you making any changes to the XML (or using a modified version)? For example, have you made edits to the max contract length or anything?

Sorry for your frustration, hopefully we'll get you fixed up soon.

Cantankerous -> RE: Run Time Error and Crash (8/31/2006 8:07:42 AM)

Shaun,

As per your request, I have zipped up the .psa and .psx files for my association and sent them to you.

I ran the association through an off-season prior to the zip, and it is ready to start a draft.

Once in the draft, select a pitcher named "Andy Beach" and attempt to sign him to a 5-year contract.  I have gone through the steps of trying to draft this pitcher several times (reverting to a saved copy of the association each time) and EVERY time after signing him I get the "Run-time error 9, subscript out of range" error.  Then the game crashes.  (The very same error message on the pic in the first post of this thread.)

Note that I have made NO changes to the XML file and to my knowledge I am NOT using any kind of "modified version".  (I'm using your 1.34 patch version only.)  In other words, the version of the game I'm playing is "right out of the box".

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

puresimmer -> RE: Run Time Error and Crash (8/31/2006 2:05:06 PM)

Hmm. I have not seen any emails come through yet.

Cantankerous -> RE: Run Time Error and Crash (8/31/2006 5:44:31 PM)

Shaun,

There must of have been some error (perhaps on my part) trying to send the file via sendthisfile.com last night.

So I will try to send it again.

Thanks.

Cantankerous -> RE: Run Time Error and Crash (8/31/2006 11:08:47 PM)

Shaun,

I think I'm having a problem emailing the association files (both the .psa and .psx files) because together they are more than 221 MB even when zipped.  I think that the file is not being sent through sendthisfile.com because I am either exceeding the max file size limit or I may have already used up all of my free file size space.

Any suggestions how to get around this or how to get the files to you in another method?

Cantankerous -> RE: Run Time Error and Crash (9/17/2006 6:49:47 AM)

Shaun,

I know it's been a while since this issue that I'm having was discussed (and is still unresolved), but I wanted to let you know that I sent you my .psa and .psx files zipped up through sendthisfile.com.

Please see the above posts for information regarding what you had previously asked me to do.

Please note that the files have NOT been upgraded to the latest patch.  The last patch they were upgraded to was 1.34.

puresimmer -> RE: Run Time Error and Crash (9/17/2006 3:34:57 PM)

Got your file and this will be fixed in the next patch (hopefully released today)

Cantankerous -> RE: Run Time Error and Crash (9/18/2006 1:15:46 AM)

Shaun,

Thank you very much for your help and your attention.  Patch 1.38 certainly did the job.

I was able to get through the amateur draft with no problem after the upgrade and the game seems to be playing fine from this point onward.

Thanks for the personal game support!!  It is greatly appreciated!

puresimmer -> RE: Run Time Error and Crash (9/18/2006 2:06:41 PM)

Great news.

I'm sorry it took this long.

Well the length to time to resolve the problem wasn't really your fault. I'll blame it on my cable internet service since I apparently wasn't getting a good enough connection (or speed or something to that effect) to be able to send the zipped files before things timed out, and because they were so huge they simply just were not being sent through Sendthisfile.com.

Regardless, though, it's solved and my league can continue!

Thanks!
