ReDDoN45 -> Question regarding bomb loads CHS/RHS (8/23/2006 6:47:53 PM)

The reduced bomb loads in CHS/RHS are made to simulate reduced efficiency of level bombing compared to stock witp, arenīt they? Do the reduced loadouts only affect anti-shipping missions (where I consider reduced bombing efficiency more realistic) or also land attacks, i.e. is the loadout (i.e. 3 x 250 kg AP Bomb or 3 x 100 lg AP Bomb) used for land attacks or, as I thought up to now, the max. loadout number (i.e. 2200, 1800, 8800,...) used for land-attack bomb load calculations of level bombers.

Thank you for enlightening me!

The max bomb load figure is only used to in determining the size of AF to operate from without penalty. The forumula is 4 + Max Bomb Load/6500.

I am not really sure what the loadout shows. I thought it was for anit-shipping.

I dont like altering bomb loads to create this effect.

Why not alter the effect of the weapon and its accuracy?

The load out of an aircraft is editable for each squadron/wing. If you want to have a Beaufughter Sqn carrying Torpedos or Rockets you can edit that sqn. You can equip 617 Sqn RAF with 22,000lb bombs for its Lancasters  but limit the loads on other Lancaster Sqns

Once a unit upgrades it reverts to default settings.

I think this thread begins with a misperception: CHS and RHS are VERY different re bomb loads. RHS has gone a long way toward restoring the range and bomb load of Allied bombers - and finally also added even longer range recon variants.

The technical comment above is correct: a max bomb load is not used as such - it should be at very short ranges - and I hope this will happen soon - but it has not happened yet.

In WITP there are two bomb loads - normal and extended - the latter being less than the former. Normal is derived from what you define in the device list. It is hard to get this right - because planes could carry different weapons! But the code likes to take small bombs and replace them with bigger ones (for the Allies) - for the Axis it only uses 800 kg bombs in a port attack - on a statistical basis - OR if you define it as the normal bomb load.

In general, max bomb loads are much bigger in RHS - and this has drawn fire because of base requirements. I am not very sympathetic to this - I want to use correct data. But I have reviewed the matter and made slight revisions. I also added more bombers - to allow players to have their cake and eat it too - as it were. RHS now defines EVERY plane slot.
