I've been studying WW2 for a lot of my life and found this game to be hot and fun. Still have some questions which I'll post in the other area, and working on the full War scenario, have stopped the Japanese and tok back Wake and Marcus early. They did not seem to want to bring their CV's out early and the Arizona and Oklahoma live! Managed to lose the British ships as they were lose for real to Japanese air power, was just about to bring them to CBI to save them, but got greedy. Akyab has been a major ground battle for months (am now in late AUG '42) 140K US vs. 90K Japan but Us is mostly Air Base Units. Managed to knock out Rangoon and Tavoy air power, took back Andamn Island and ready to kick ass once Akyab is over. if ever. Built up forces to bring to the South or SW Pacific, took back Tarawa, Makin and others there to set some bases and give safe shipping lanes. Now, what is the big one next? Almost Kwajalein, but decided to stop that historical pain in the Japanese Naval Air power base - RABAUL! Has been dumping on my southern convoys and Port Moresby, so forces went in with 5 carriers out front, then the surface forces to shell and cover the transports. Decided a few turns before everything was in place to send transports to Solomons to get bases there and hit Kaveing and Arawae. Remember reading about Kaveing in 5th Air Force literature and it held true. Japanese been trying to get Lae back, hah! no way. So Rabaul, Arawae, and Kaveieng are all under invasion, biting knuckles on them all. Then all the enemy has to do is waltz down Indonesia and Australia with its Carriers and transports and that would sure make life interesting. Think they are still ticked about the sore thumb of Kendari still sitting there with troops and my planes harassing their Navy through there. Worst move: pulled a Halsey and left my second set of transports alone in Rabaul, Japanese ship of BBs and DDs came down the slot and as I thought I was going to intercept them with my 5 BBs, 8 CAs and CLs/DDs, they missed and the Japanese has a field day at the port. Never leave the port again, even if they have to pass by. Best move: Marching down and taking Tarawa and Makin early in '42 actually around April/May, gave me the bases I needed to help the southern area and they never regrouped down there. And also sendinog waves of bombers and having about 80 British Canes sitting in Akyab, they Bonzaied their Air Fleet and got crushed. Waiting for the F4U Corsair and Essex carrie - long way off
