Arkham -> what does -rd mean in the aircraft replacement pool? (9/12/2006 10:14:37 PM)

I'm trying to learn the upgrade system, and when I look at available aircraft, I see some are marked -rd. What does that mean?

I searche the pdf manual, and can't see any mention of that.

Thanks,
ark

Means they're still in the Research and Development stage, and not actually being produced in any physical examples.

Ahh, ok.

So now I have a fighter unit I am hoping to upgrade. it is a p-36 (I think) squad with 40 aircraft, the 20th FG. i need to have 4o P40's in the pool before I can upgrade that squad to all p40's, right?

Also, when looking at ships, it says upgrade 4/42, yes and no. Do i need to do anything special to upgrade this ship, or just wait for 4/42 and it will do it automaticly. Will that ship be out of use for 180 after that?

Yep.

Just make sure you leave it on "Yes", and when the time comes, the ship must be disbanded in a port with a shipyard. The upgrade will give it a small number of sys damage points, depending on the type of ship, but it'll stay in game.

If the FG has a full complement of 72 a/c I think you'll need to have 72 in the pool to do the upgrade.

Your air units have to have the required amount of aircraft in the pool. If it is a large 72 plane group, you might want to break it down to 3 x 24 plane groups and do each individually (good thing to do when in 10/42 you can upgrade your P-39's to P-38's). You cannot recombine them until all have the same plane types.

On ships, they have to be in a port that has a shipyard to upgrade. All your ships will have to have sys damage below 10, with your CV's at 4 or below. If possible, get them there before the due date and allow them to get some sys damage repaired first. When it comes to Allied subs, many players will turn "off" the upgrade (switch each to NO) for the first upgrade cycle (4/42) as all it does is decrease your capacity - cannot transport as many supplies/troops, and this upgrade doesn't do anything with their combat effectiveness. Usually, I wait until the 10/42 when they get radar!!  Some subs like the Argonaut, I keep off permanently as I don't want to loose it's mine laying capacity. Same with the Dutch O19 & 20 as they have larger than normal mine laying capacity.

For some reason I can't upgrade aircraft that have enough aircraft in the pool.

For example, one squad has 5 active aircraft. I see that their upgrade pool has 14 active, however the upgrade now button is greyed out.

For another squad, it has 42 aircraft, but when i divide the squad in to three parts, I can't upgrade their either

What am i doing wrong?

Hi

From both your examples i would guess you don't have enough a/c in the pool to upgrade.

To upgrade you require enough a/c to bring the unit up to full strength , e.g. for a fighter squadron of compliment of 16 a/c but has only 5 active and say 5 damaged making total of 10 a/c you still require 16 new a/c in the pool to upgarde [ don't forget supply and HQ requirements.

Look in the squadron/group window , top left corner , in brackets you will see the required number of a/c .
