Procrustes -> Anyone familiar with the "War in Russia in 1941" scenario? (9/15/2006 2:15:23 AM)

Hi Folks, [:)]

Is anyone familiar with the "War in Russia in 1941" v1.0 scenario by Bob Cross? (It's a Barbarossa scenario - comes w/ TOAW3 in the East Front directory.) It looks like a fun scenario - I am interested in playing as the Axis against the USSR-PO but I have a couple of questions first.

Soviet replacements are fed by "manpower" units that need to be disbanded by the player. The readme states that:

"Note that if the PO plays the Soviets it will not disband these [manpower] units. So the Axis player is advised to interrupt the PO's action to do the disbanding for it, if he wants any sort of serious Soviet PO opposition. (The Soviet PO may need help with factories and off-map reinforcements, as well)."

How exactly do you "interrupt the PO's action"???

Second question - I notice that after starting the scenario I get an error file that contains a handful of "problem with unit in event" notes. Has anyone safely ignored them, or does anyone know of an updated version of the scenario?

Thank you,

P.

I think Bob wants you to control the Soviet PO for a few moments and disband the manpower units. Then you can return the Soviet side to the PO. Oh, you change from PO to player control by right-clicking the screen while the PO is moving. To change from player to PO control you can select "Play - Computer Player".

Cool, thanks!

I knew you could interupt the computer that way when it was ai vs ai - never realized you could do it during a human vs ai game.

Correct. And any reinforcements that have arrived in the "Siberia" area should be moved (by rail) into the map area. Finally, any factories that have been released should be moved to the Siberia area (if possible). The PO should be able to handle it from there.

Hopefully, none of that will be necessary one day with PO improvements and much more events. Bear with us.

A lot of scenarios are encountering this. It appears to be a TOAW III problem - hopefully one that will be resolved soon. Till then, I don't yet know how the scenario is affected by it.

I'm way behind in revisions for my scenarios, and this one will require the most effort when I do catch up, since it will most benefit from the event slot increase. So I expect it will be a while before a revision will be issued. I'm currently focused on a new design.

Thanks for the replies - I think thing will work out well. I'm really looking forward to this scenario - it's obvious that a lot of thought and work went into it.

Best,

-- EDIT --
Regarding the error logs, I've also been seeing them with other scenarios lately - I didn't mean to imply it was peculiar to this one.

Be sure to check out the two related documents (one Word, one Excel) for the scenario included in its folder. They can be easily accessed via the "documentation" button when the scenario is selected in the "Play a new game" panel (click it twice to get both documents up).

Finally, note that there is also a saved game file in the scenario's folder that shows the location and relative sizes of the manpower centers. This has to be accessed via the "resume a saved game" button, and changing the path to the scenario's folder.
