Epicurius -> Hey WB - Just played Ramelle for the 1st time! (7/28/2000 2:55:00 AM)

I played the movie version. You did a good job on it. I do have a question though. Did you edit the strengths and abilities of the Americans? They are deadly. I have played a lot of SPWAW games now and I have never had that kind of good shooting. Horvath had like 4 tank kills. Two of them tigers! How much tweaking went into this one? A lot, Epicurius, a lot I did upgrade my little band of brothers into a formidable fighting force. I must say Sgt Horvath outdid himself. I can usually get two AFVs with him. Did he survive? His statement in the movie as he dies is typical of the heroes of that day, "Nah, just got the wind knocked out of me." His other, "We're in business," is perhaps my favorite of the movie, followed closely by FUBAR Glad you enjoyed it, my friend. I've played it probably 30 times and will probably go play it now again Wild Bill ------------------ In Arduis Fidelis Wild Bill Wilder Coordinator, Scenario Design Matrix Games

This is going to sound somewhat hollywoodish but the old boy survived until turn 14. He was the closest to the right most victory hex and there was fire and brimstone in between. I had to get to the victory hex and so I moved him out of his position through all the mealstrom of smoke and fire. There just happened to be a two strength rifle squad in the smoke that was pinned, but still could fire. One...Just one lucky shot got him. The percentage was something like 8% or something like that. What sound are you using for the sticky bomb?

I think one of them should have a little less experience than modelled by WB: Upham Hans

I've played the movie version a number of times against the computer. The Germans usually manage to win if they manage to keep the Tiger firing (if not necessarily moving) for the first few turns, and that Jackson almost always dies. Last time I played, Sgt. Horvath ROCKED. He destroyed everything on wheels and two German squads besides. That one is a real treat. About the only thing missing is Upham as ammo carrier.

If you play this in V4.0, remember to turn reduced squads off. Otherwise you can end up with Sgt. Horvath being 11 guys, and he's tough enough on the Germans as one

Eep.... that would be ugly. When I played it Horvath took out most of the German force himself (3 AFVs and about 5 squads). Of course, just to be cruel, I modified the scenario to reduce the Americans to mere mortal status... still good troops, but not superhuman. Then played it as the Germans....

Thanks for the note about that David. I should put that in the text file for the scenario. I forgot about that one. I appreciate the note...Wild Bill ------------------ In Arduis Fidelis Wild Bill Wilder Coordinator, Scenario Design Matrix Games

I posted it here because I noticed it particularly when playing this, my first foray into V4.0, but it's a new thing for players and designers alike to be aware of. It was blatantly obvious in Ramelle because so many of the American units are 1-man squads. I'm not sure what the game uses to compute chance and amount of force reduction, but it strikes me that small scenarios in particular are vulnerable to being significantly rebalanced by the changes introduced. In scnearios with a lot of units it probably averages out, unless the algorithms involved have some really odd statistical distribution in them. Anyway, glad to have made a contribution, given how much pleasure the game in all its incarnations has given me.
