redeck -> future upgrade (9/18/2006 1:12:54 AM)

Hi guys, ive been gone from the message board for months, but ive been playing PS all the while.

Shaun, heres my request for a future release. I want to be able to play an ASC. from 1871 to present using real MLB players. ( or atleast from about 1885 when Lahman has about enough pitchers to support a 6 or 8 team league) Im not a programmer, but i would think this would be pretty easy for you to do. (im probably wrong) but pretty please all the same.

would like the ability to set a 2 or 3 man rotation as well.

during game play would like to see some sort of icons for runners advancing around the bases and maybe the ball after being hit to an infielder, the throw to whichever base the play was made.

I know all of these things have been suggested in the past, (by me for one :-)
just want to bring them to the fore again.

well we are back to using dial up for our internet, so im going to go download the latest upgrade, should only take the rest of the night siiiiiiiigh.........

good to be reading everyones thoughts on PS again, read you around guys

Hey, welcome back!

I definitely miss being able to play 1871-1900, but honestly there was a lot of trouble with that era the last time it was available. I think it would be easy for Shaun to simply re-enable the option, but a lot more work to get that era generating realistic results across the board.

I'm not sure I really want a 2- or 3- man rotation, but I would like to see a bit of an overhaul to the way the game thinks of a 'rotation' in general. I don't quite have a design ready yet, but the basic 'requirements' I'm looking for are
1. Always pitch the ace if he's well-rested
2. Handles double-headers and off-days in a way that maximizes the innings pitched by my better starters
3. Doesn't rule a pitcher out when he would be available for long-relief in reality
4. Handles 2-, 3-, 4-, and 5- man rotations
5. Handles the 'seventh game of the world series, everybody is available' situation.

Animated runner icons are probably a lot of work for Shaun - but it could add a lot of drama to things to see the runner icon and the ball thrown.

In particular, I'd like to see the single to 2B / 4-6-3 DP / 4-6 FC built up as a visually dramatic item - and that doesn't require the runner. The sequence would look like
- ball moves from home plate to 4D (deep to the second-baseman)
- ball moves from 4D to 2B.
- pop-up "Safe" - for an infield single
- pop-up "Out" - for a DP or FC, and then:
-- ball moves quicly from 2B to 1B
-- pop-up "Safe" - for the 4-6 FC
-- pop-up "Out" - for the 4-6-3 DP.

I think that would add a lot, without requiring a huge change on Shaun's part. (It would invalidate park data, though, as parks would now need to have 3B, 2B, and 1B called out; they currently only have data for home plate.)

thanks amararoq,

I would love to start a league from say 1885, with real players, 6-8 teams or even 4-6 teams, to get enough pitching id import the generation of pitchers preceding this from 1871. this makes it a semi fictional league i know, but thats ok. to be able to play these guys against each other and not players from 1900 or 1901 would be enough for me. I want to draft cy young in 1892 not force retire his older 1901 version

i agree with your thoughts on pitching rotations, but would think that if you are playing a 40 or 60 game scheduale most games would be played several days apart thus resting your ace sufficiantly to start most or even all your games. i havent played short season scheduals i dont know how PS has them set up.
