Cheesehead -> Some questions from an interested potential buyer (9/19/2006 6:06:00 PM)

I'm a WiF guy who's interested in trying a new game (and a new war) for a change of pace. I've been patiently waiting for EiA to come out on computer, but I'd like to play something now. Can anyone answer a few questions I have?
1. What is the naval system like? Is there ship to ship engagements or is it all abstracted?

2. Is the AI acceptable to learn the nuances of the game, as well as the strategy?

3. My preferred method for wargaming is PBEM. Does this game work well in PBEM mode?

4. If I order the game directly from Matrix will it include all the updates?

Any other encouraging or discouraging remarks would be appreciated.

Thanks

John

I'll try answer for you.

It is fleet to fleet with individual units represented. You get to place the units on the tactical map, but then can only watch the resolution with any control.
2. Is the AI acceptable to learn the nuances of the game, as well as the strategy?
I highly recommend playing the AI before taking on a human to learn the strategies and nuances of the game. Many nuamces are subtle and you will want to feel out the mechanics as well before jumping in against a live opponent.
3. My preferred method for wargaming is PBEM. Does this game work well in PBEM mode?
I have tried playing by email and the game is very slow paced as such, a least with multiple players. PBEM probably more conducive to 2 player. Also in pbem tactical battles are auto resolved. Bummer!
4. If I order the game directly from Matrix will it include all the updates?
Don't know the answer to this, but downloading patch/updates not hard.

I have enjoyed playing the game vs the AI over humans, because it is less of a logistic/buggy nightmare. Although many swear by the enjoyment level of MP, it seems to troubelsome to me. If you don't mind some of the open ended possiblities of diplomacy, development and technology it is a facinating game.

I don't regret getting it.
