GTGSAILOR -> Replacement Squadrons (9/21/2006 6:40:19 PM)

How are the Replacement Squadrons used by the Allies? I have a large number of squadrons and a lot of planes tied up as Replacement units. Most are in Pearl but some on more forward bases. I am playing the Allies and it is 9-43.

Carriers automatically get replacement aircraft in any port with sufficient supply, even when no replalcement suadrons are in the port. Where do the replacement squadrons come in?

Should a replacement squadron be on a CVE in a replenishment group when rearming a fast carrier group.

Should I update replacement squadrons? If a replacement squadron has F4Fs and the carrier squadron already has F6Fs will the F4Fs from the replacement Squadron go to the fleet unit as a replacement?

Can replacement Squadrons at forward bases serve as regular squadrons in attacking and defending?

Terry

I'm not sure what you're talking about. There is an aircraft replacement pool, which does not show up on the map. The planes for this pool magically show up where ever they are needed.

The game also provides you with reinforcement aircraft units throughout the game. These are usually historic units that entered frontline service around the time they are brought into the game. Withdrawn and disbanded units also appear in the reinforcement pool 60 or 90 days from the time they are pulled from the game. Withdrawn units return with their original pilots and disbanded units are recreated from scratch.

Reinforcement units are intended to enter combat, or at minimum, defend critical assets from attack by the enemy.

I'm assuming the 'replacement squadrons' should be assigned to the 'replacement' escort carriers (there are quite a few of them) that automatically move planes over to fleet carriers in the vicinity when they sustain losses.

I did a bit of searching on the forums, since it looks like I was out to lunch on my first reply.

There are these threads:

The replacement squadrons should be left on the CVEs they arrive on, and these CVEs should be used in replenishment TFs. Your carriers will draw replacement AC from these when away from a base. If in port the carrier squadrons should be reinforced from the normal replacement pool (as per LBA).

Best not to take the replacement squadrons off the CVE - they will grow too large and then you cannot put them back again.

And yes, you can upgrade them.

In the database, the replacement squadrons are defines as "wings", which I believe are 54 aircraft.  When they are on the CVEs, they are limited to the capacity of the carrier.  If taken off, they exapnd to wing sized units.

While as a replacement wing on a CVE they can expand to 54[;)]
