Epicurius -> Three Questions - (7/29/2000 3:17:00 AM)

1. I landed a Paratrooper unit/Special forces unit on a victory hex and no victory condition was taken. I had to move off of it and then back on it to take it. Was this by design, or an unforseen bug? 2. There is a funny story to this one. I had my A0 unit in a wooden building. I moved up a few hexes into some trees. At the end of the turn, my PBEM opponent had a B-25 comming in to bomb some Tigers that he had spotted. My AA shot it down. The plane spiralled down right on top of the wooden building my HQ unit moved out of. Question: Did the designers factor in damage for a falling plane on units? 3. Why is it that sometimes I have guys with 0 Rally ability? I may be lying because I can not remember, but I think that I had a guy in Ready status with 0 Rally. As a matter of fact, I was playing the "The Eagle Cry!" campaign and on of my section leaders had 0 Rally to beging the game. It sort of disappointed me so I chose a different campaign. Please let me know. Scott

3. You should only ever get a 0 rally rating when you've already tried to rally and failed. Are you sure this isn't what happened?

As for crashing aircraft, indeed they can cause casualties to infantry sitting in the hex they crash on. The fire also will send men running for home.

2 and 3 are answered. A partial answer to #3. If they come in on gliders or parachutes any unit suffers some suppression automatically. That will change in the following turns. It is part of the shock of hitting the ground. You probably should have given that campaign a turn or two before exiting. I don't think I would have given up that quickly. Personal opinion here, no reflection on you, Epicurius. As to #1, as I remember this is not a bug, but a safeguard against just such a happening. To take the hex, you must take it, not just land on it. The reason here is obvious. Someone could just pour in paratroopers landing on the objectives and take them all in one turn conceivably. A lot of folks cried "foul" about that. WB ------------------ In Arduis Fidelis Wild Bill Wilder Coordinator, Scenario Design Matrix Games

Thanks WB for the comments. I know that I should have given it more time, but it was one of the first games that I played of Spwaw when I downloaded it. I was more in playtest mode than in fun mode. I think that I will start it again.

To the no.1 question: It's obviously design decision, but has it's drawbacks. Recently I had entrenched infantry with "hold fire" assignment sitting right on the "my" victory hex. Suddenly, out of nowhere, german recon car rushes in, drives over my entrenched infantry, is destroyed by close assault, but because it's last unit to enter the hex, it's all of sudden a german one, even though my 0 suppression, elite, ready, enterenched infantry is still sitting on it, around a german burning scout car. So I have to move and lose enterenched flag, to "recapture it". No good !!! Renwor, the "Sitting Bull"
