timtom -> Help: Ships not shown during naval- and air/naval combat resolution (10/6/2006 9:17:25 PM)

Hi guys,

When I run a turn, the ship graphics are borked during naval attack. The backdrop is shown along with the resolution text, but the ship sides aren't displayed. Resolution is fine - it's purely a graphics problem.

I've got a ton of modded graphics installed and I'm fairly certain the problem is self-inflicted in that I've accidentally deleted some file or other. But which ones?

Too lazy to reinstall... :)

Cheers,

Tom

Lazy Aarhusite...[:'(]

Anyhoo, it's one of two things, both of which have happened to me: either you deleted something, or you've copied a new shipside or -shil over and misnamed it, i.e. forgot to put the zero in (AnShil0xxx).

timtom -> RE: Help: Ships not shown during naval- and air/naval combat resolution (10/7/2006 1:14:39 PM)

I think it's the former - ALL the shils are non-functional. Ya know what files might be missing?

Terminus -> RE: Help: Ships not shown during naval- and air/naval combat resolution (10/7/2006 1:19:32 PM)

ALL of them? Then I'd say it's the folder that's the problem, either missing entirely or accidentally misnamed. Check your WitP installation folder...

timtom -> RE: Help: Ships not shown during naval- and air/naval combat resolution (10/7/2006 2:22:35 PM)

Okay, I've got shil folders called "AlliedShip_Transp" & "JapShipShills_transp", so that doens't sound quite right. Rename
"JapShipShills_transp" to "JapShip_transp"? Only the Allied ones aren't showing up either.

There's also a "AlliedShipClasses" & "JapShipClasses", whcih looks shil-esque, though I don't know what they do.

I sorta thought I understood how this all works, but clearly not.

Terminus -> RE: Help: Ships not shown during naval- and air/naval combat resolution (10/7/2006 2:38:02 PM)

Don't touch the Jap folders; for some reason, the Jap shil folder is named differently. If the folder name is correct, and it is, then I'm not sure. You might have to reinstall whether you want to or not...

You could also check for permissions.  If the folder or the files have been set to "read only" somehow that may cause problems.  I believe it would also make re-installing problematic.

timtom -> RE: Help: Ships not shown during naval- and air/naval combat resolution (10/7/2006 10:00:40 PM)

Well, I reinstalled and it's working fine. Pain in a certain part of the anatomy, but I though F this etc...

Anyway, thanks for you help gentlemen. Here, have one on me[sm=party-smiley-012.gif], especially you T - know how you just love the black stuff. How did you actually survive your trip to Ireland, one wonders?

Cheers,

Tom

Ok I've had the same thing happen and I haven't touched the ship sides / artwork / folders. I guess I'll reinstall the patch and hope that works for me too...

dtravel -> RE: Help: Ships not shown during naval- and air/naval combat resolution (10/11/2006 6:32:25 AM)

Installing the 1.802 patch has caused this same problem for me.  Tried a complete re-install but that didn't fix it.  Something screwy going on.  Hmmm, checking the Folder Properties under Customize the new install has template folder type set as "Photo Album" instead of "Documents".  Another install where it works has it as "Documents".  Let's try setting that and see what happens.  I'll report back.

Nope, directory wasn't the problem.

In a potentially related note, I know that something was done to speed up the "Divide Crippled TFs" step but it seems to be taking an inordinate amount of time now.  Also, playing against the AI when I end the orders phase there is now a very long pause before any of the AI processing messages appear.  Something appears to have backfired.

No, actually we haven't done this yet. But we've identified the problem and have a proposed solution. But it hasn't even been complied yet, much less included in the patch !!! So different problem, you're having ...

So? Fix it anyways! [:'(]

Regarding the lack of Japanese ship sides: I tried copying the entire ART directory from a working 1.801 install but the combat animations still appear as in the screenshot above.  I think that pretty much rules out the files or directory as the source of the problem.  I'm out of ideas on what the user can do to fix this.

As to the pause when ending the turn before the AI processing messages start, this is remaining consistent at 20-25 seconds.  (Previously on this same machine it was a second or less.)

Dtravel - Thanks for doing the work on this to verify it. I wouldn't have thought to do any of that. The screenshots you posted are exactly what I am seeing.

ColFrost -> RE: Help: Ships not shown during naval- and air/naval combat resolution (10/16/2006 2:45:36 AM)

Well. I am having the same problem (all my ships are looking like arrows in air/sub attacks), after I upgraded to 1.802. Is this going to be looked at by staff?

erstad -> RE: Help: Ships not shown during naval- and air/naval combat resolution (10/16/2006 5:32:02 AM)

I'm also seeing only the arrow thingies. And I might be a little unique in that I've never loaded an artwork mod. (unless one came with NikMod? I did load that although I've never played it)

But to me, it's only a minor annoyance.

Having the same exact problem as Dtravel concerning the long delay after loading new patch. No problems with the shipsides though.
